2025 Retirees - Are you just going to ignore these players SDS?
-
Here are the players who have announced retirements in 2025 so far meaning that if they are still in the game that this is their final year
The players with a * next to their name are languishing their final year in the game in the free agent pool. These guys who have actually retired should get a final decent Flashback card before they ride off into the sunset.
I realize most of these guys don't deserve a 99 so it is too late this year but this should be a thing throughout the year. Maybe make a Retiring Player Series and give them a card equal to their best overall card in the years that they were in the game and then roll them out at the proper time during the Power Creep.
Summary Table of 2025 MLB Retirements Player Announcement Date * Jay Jackson March 29 * Lance Lynn April 1 * Ross Stripling May 6 Evan Longoria May 12 * Matt Carpenter May 14 * Tony Kemp May 15 Kolten Wong May 16 Jean Segura May 21 * Jake Diekman May 23 Josh Harrison May 31 Wilson Ramos June 15 * Whit Merrifield June 24 (has a Flashback card) * Tucker Barnhart June 30 * Kevin Pillar July 2 Freddy Galvis July 4 Dan Straily July 6 Trevor Cahill July 16 * Kyle Gibson July 17 * Daniel Bard July 20 * Nick Ahmed July 24 * Jesse Chavez July 24 (has a Flashback card) * Alex Wood August 8
Come on, you could not trot out this card one final time
Because this just makes me sad.

A continuous program based around players who have announced their retirement is actually a cool idea. It may be thin at times, but as you pointed out there are some good possibilities in there
-
They typically do the career tribute around this time. Two years ago Wainwright and Cabrera were the stars, last year it was Grienke and Rich Hill (lol)
Carpenter has gotten 99s in both those programs
-
You can definitely squeeze in a 99 Longoria card. I lived in Tampa when he hit the HR to sneak them into the playoffs. That was as clutch as it gets and he was a stud at times

I would really like a 99 Matt Carpenter card. Always a fun card.
Also, where is Eddie Mathews? I know he's still in the game, how are we in September and not have a single Eddie Mathews card yet?
-
my God get me a Grienke 99!

LOL, you know you're gonna get your Yankees Matt Carpenter Spotlight card instead now...
