Retired players being removed

@Dolenz_PSN didn't know that Gibson retired. But, I don't play DD. I'm putting together another roster after the latest live roster and none of them are on the live roster. Not in FAs or on the roster they last played for.

Okay, I just assumed we were talking DD since that is the majority of topics these days. When I realized this was in the general category it dawned on me that you might be talking about another mode.
I really don't know how it is handled in other modes. I hope someone can come along and answer.

So, Kevin Pillar as retired and been removed from the latest live roster. Whitt Merrifield and Niko Goodrum also retired and were removed. Kyle Gibson hasn't retired. He was released. But, not in the rosters anymore. Yet, Jay Jackson retired way back in Spring Training. Still on the rosters. Wonder why that is? Just an oversight, maybe?
Rule 5 guys can make 40 man rosters a bit squirrelly. Because they haven't made their debut yet (and haven't officially joined the MLBPA licensing arm), SDS can't/won't make cards for them. That leaves empty roster slots. This allows SDS to, if need be, keep retired or 60-day IL guys on the roster even though they are technically no longer on.
Also, there are plenty of players that haven't been on a roster, MLB or MILB in a few years and are still in the game. Instead of removing players who have only recently retired, why not just remove players that haven't been on rosters for a few years?
It's a little mix of everything (players that are no longer in the league but are toiling in the minors trying to make it back, players who play the game and get to have Real 99s because SDS continues to allow them to have a card, minor league retirees who never made it but SDS gives them a card anyway. [Can confirm this has happened because I've seen a few LSU players who never made the majors but still got cards in the game. AJ Labas is just such a person this year.])
Or, if you're going to remove them, at least add Legends. New ones or ones that you removed that were in the game last year. Like Mike Schmidt & Fergie Jenkins.
The Legends budget is a completely separate issue.

I really hope that Super Mega Baseball blows up and gets MLB licensing. It will light a fire under SDS's arses.
EA has completely abandoned that game, like they did NBA Live. Apart from Madden and EA College Football, which aren't particularly good, EA would rather cash out on low-effort mobile phone games.

Yeah, okay. I'm glad people around here know exactly what's going on at these companies.

They have to pay them directly now. They won't do that, SDS is beyond cheap. And sony probably bends them over a barrel at the end of the year. They're kinda getting screwed from both ends. They could have some level of communication but I dont think they want that.

@Jacob151167_XBL Super Mega Baseball is not a yearly release; the latest game is a year old. There’s no incentive to make it a yearly release for fictional characters (and now legends in the last one).

To expand.
Super Mega Baseball - 2014
Super Mega Baseball 2 - 2018
Super Mega Baseball 3 - 2020
Super Mega Baseball 4 - 2023So definitely not a yearly franchise. That is not to say that EA won't ruin it but the lack of release this year is not enough to make that call yet.
Its a fun game. I know purists like to put it down because of it's style but it plays a pretty good game of baseball.
Oh, and it's currently on the Playstation sale for only $5 for the next few days. It is also $5 on steam and $7.50 on Xbox

Fair point, but the game has been 85% off for as long as I can remember. So, based on the fact that it's not a live service and they've essentially been giving it away for at least 6 months, if not longer, I'm guessing that it was a disappointment sales-wise.

@Dolenz_PSN We can't mod Super Mega 4... [censored]!
