He’s only the hit king because he got to pencil himself in the lineup well past his productive years. I know being a PDF file is no longer considered a bad thing to half the country but SDS has already set a precedent on this issue. Pete Rose won’t be in the game for the same reason Wander Franco isn’t.

If Pete Rose ever makes it to "The Show", here's how it'd happen.
A. The Historical Overview Committee meets next in December 2027. They determine whether Rose is put onto the ballot of the Veteran's Committee.
B. The Veteran's Committee votes (whether this is in 2027 or 2028 is unclear.)
C. Assuming Pete wins in 2028 (for 2029 enshrinement), SDS would make Pete the "lead" legend for MLBTS 29 just as they did Clemens/Manny this year, Jeter in 23, Randy in 22, Clemente in 21, Rivera/Ortiz in 20, etc. -

I don't get the Luis Arraez disparagement. Gotta have guys on base or all those HRs you Jones for will be solo shots.
Plus a runner on base is an extra distraction for the pitcher.
Not to mention those good ABs help wear the pitcher down which may lead to a mistake thrown to your big guys later.
BA guys can be valuable members of the team. -

To some other posts here in this thread: Pete Rose has a carreer WAR of 79.6 (Baseball-reference). Saying he was „not that good“ is a pretty wild statement. His Career war is higher than Brooks Robinson, Joltin Joe, Ozzie Smith, Paul Molitor, … He ranks no 66 all-time. Sure, he had 24 seasons to do it (and has was basically a replacement-player (in WAR-termins) his last 9 seasons) … but had several seasons of 5+ WAR … still not great, but still „not a bad baseball player“

Pete Rose is not an inner circle guy and should never be in 'best ever' discussions.
Was he a good player? Sure. Molitor seems like a fair enough comparison. Putting DiMaggio in there is pretty absurd though.

Dimaggio missed three years of his prime. So comparing WAR between a guy whose career was curtailed with a guy who decided he got to stick around for maybe a decade too long is silly. Pete strikes me as a bone spurs type of fella who would never have put country first.

There are 4,256 reasons for Pete Rose to be in the game. When you hold a record that nobody will ever approach again, no matter how many games they add to the playoffs, you've earned the right. The sudden injection of morality in a group that sits there with the kill switch next to them so they can disconnect the game before your 1st inning home run gets counted is rich.
