Rose and the Black Socks
-
They’re now unbanned, maybe one day we get shoe less Joe in the game now.
-
I just saw that, I'm kinda glad they are. But I'm disappointed at the reasoning.
-
I think it was the easiest way to do it.
-
@Jcassaro44_MLBTS Isn't it a bit of a slap in the face to say well now that you're dead we won't punish you anymore? And makes the ban disingenuous in the first place. Do I think he should be in the Hall? Absolutely! Do I think what he did is wrong? Also Absolutely. But I think waiting for someone to die just to lift the ban is a really sad thing. If you're going to honor the man you could have done it while he was alive.
-
@trfatboy22_MLBTS no I think it’s fair. It’s the no. 1 rule, and he shouldn’t get the satisfaction.
If it happened today though it would be hard for MLB (and other leagues) to be taken seriously with all the money they get from betting apps.
-
@yankblan_PSN So if that's how you feel then he should never be unbanned. Doing is posthumously is a slap in the face to a mans memory and to his family.
-
I get that, but I think Manfred looked at it as a whole with all the players involved and made an easy ruling to un ban them all, by making a blanket rule like once you’re dead the punish is over, allows a quick fix, doesn’t mean it’s right, but it’s the easy way to fix the scenario at hand.

You know what else was a slap in the face?
Breaking Baseball's one unbreakable rule.
-
@Jcassaro44_MLBTS That's fair I respect that opinion.
-
@SaveFarris_PSN @trfatboy22_MLBTS never showed contrition, lied through his teeth. I don’t feel sorry one iota. He did this to his family himself, not MLB.
-
I know everyone seems to want Rose in the game and maybe SDS should start pursuing that but I look at his stats and wonder who is going to actually use a OF/1B with High Contact and low power.
But here is hoping that he is added for Cincy fans.
The same kind of goes for Shoeless Joe - High Contact/Low Power for an outfielder.

That assumes there's anything to fix. For over 100 years, players knew that if you bet on baseball, you were automatically barred from Cooperstown. It's worked pretty well as a deterrent, with Pete and Marcano the only ones in the past 80 years to ignore the consequences.
Manfred's actions today makes the penalties less harsh. Given the proliferation we've seen of online/app wagering, it's the exact wrong signal to send.
-
Eh, agree to disagree. I think waiting for someone to die and then deciding to forgive them is a pretty bad way to go about it. I also think Pete Rose the player didn't do anything wrong and should have been in the hall forever ago. I understand that will be a minority opinion but it is what it is.
It's good for baseball to have your best (and most popular) players be recognized.
-
Shoeless Joe will basically be Ty Cobb with power…Which would be AWESOME.
Rose will basically be Luis Arraez.
-
I couldn’t agree with you more it’s an absolute shame that they lift Pete Roses Ban now that he’s passed away. The society we live in is just absolutely disgusting and awful
-
@trfatboy22_MLBTS I mean weren't they "lifetime" bans? It's pretty wild that you are talking about the disgusting and awful society while caping for a child rapist.

How the heck do you figure that? Both players best HR year was 12. The 162 game average for their careers is
Cobb 6 HRs per 162
Jackson 7 HRs per 162Tony Gwynn averaged more power than those two.
-
@IrishFist412_MLBTS I said the same thing about Rose/Arraez...but Rose was a switch hitter so he has that going for him over Arraez.
-
April Showers bring May Rose. lfg
-
I don't believe that they ever had proof the Shoeless Joe actually bet or threw games. Pete Rose, yeah, he bet on them. I'm ok with Jackson, not so much with Rose.
