Great question, but I think right now it's a 50-50 whether MLB amends the rules to ban them. What they do is lighten the bat at the far end to increase bat speed. It works provided the hitters are making contact before the bats start to contract in diameter. But, it does increase substantially the odds of a bat making contact at the end and snapping off.

@sbchamps17_NSW I'm curious why you think that? Not saying it's right or wrong, just wondering your reasoning.

My issue is they take away the inside of the plate from pitchers. However, now they may have the outside of the plate to attack the weak part of the bat.

I hope pitchers adjust fast. I understand that they're within the rules but I don't like them for the game at all. I'd like to see them go away personally.

I am wondering too … In the official rule book there are bat restrictions. One in length (42 inch) and one for the barrel (2.61 inch „on the thickest part“). So it could be one stick with 2.61 inch for a complete 42 inch bat (which would be funny af 🙂 )

They need to get rid of sliding gloves before they get rid of Torpedo bats.

No reason to take the sliding mitts out of the game. It's the same player protection option as the leg and elbow guards. MLB wants to protect their players, not see them on the injured list!

I personally think they should be illegal. They look too much like a fungo bat, which are illegal.

because the fungos are too long. Why do people not read the rule book to see what is illegal or not?

@AllRise99_NSW probably not! The bats, gloves, cleats, batting guards have been the same garbage that has been in the game for years. Doubt they add anything new. They can’t even give us large Nike guards or new balance anything other than cleats. None of the arm bands are anything but generic so no they’re def not gonna add a different bat!
