SDS-Top 4 all-time players need added.
-
There are a lot of players people want added. Some are fun like Strawberry or Canseco. Others like ARod or Manny Ramirez, but I honestly feel these four are a travesty they are not in the game. They are undisputed legends and deserve to be in. I know everybody says Bonds will never be in the game. Has SDS tried? Have they offered any 4 of these players deals?
-
Barry Bonds-all time home run king, most home runs in a season. SEVEN MVP awards.
-
Ty Cobb - #2 all time hits. 1st class in the HOF. TWELVE batting titles.
-
Ted Williams - Six batting titles. Two time MVP, Two time triple crown winner. .344 career batting average. WW2 and Korean War vet.
-
Roger Clemens - Won SEVEN Cy Young award (most in history) Third most strikeouts all-time and most k’s in a game. 1 time league MVP (as a pitcher).

sigh
Barry Bonds isn’t in the MLBPA’s licensing agreement. He’s in the union. He controls his own licensing though. So getting his rights is an entirely different set of agreements and negotiations that SDS would have to go through. It’s more of a headache than necessary.
The show had Cobb and Williams rights but lost them. I’d assume the family wanted a significant chunk of change to re-up the rights and agreement. Also, what does Williams being a veteran have to do with anything? Most players in that era served in some capacity.
Clemens is the most likely to be seen, especially if they keep running with the Jeter theme. (even as a Yankee fan I think those have run their course) But the Jeter storylines have only scratched the surface of the Yankee/Red Sox rivalry. And gives them a massive chunk of players they can add.

Bonds will have his first official autographed Topps card in years this coming season. Topps has an agreement with MLB. And a post mentioning the possibility of Bonds being in MLB The Show 25 was liked by Topps on Musk's formerly Twitter. (Link: https://x.com/kdjTV611/status/1871246023068418464) Not saying that means anything will happen, but there are some signs.
Listen to this podcast. It's pretty informative about this thing: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/episode-221-barry-bonds/id1525144765?i=1000681544351

@beatlesnews_PSN why can't you understand that he's never going to be in the game? He left the Players Association on bad terms while he was still playing and that's a major red flag which is also why SDS won't ever put him in the game

Honestly, Bonds would be neat to see. But, if his swing isn’t butter he’ll be no different than having McGwire in the game.
-
Bonds is always an option but it will only happen if both MLB and SDS want him in the game, and if he wants to be in the game and does not price his rights so high that it is not worth it to SDS.
Of course that is the same criteria needed to add Nicolas Cage or The Rock into the game too.
Having a new Topps card means nothing on it's own except the fact that maybe Bonds is softening his stance.

The significance of Ted Williams military service is he actually flew active combat missions in two different wars as a marine in the middle of being one of the greatest hitters of all time. If they continue “storylines”, this would be quite significant.
I also think a storyline involving the very first Hall of Fame class would be really cool.
Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Walter Johnson, Christy Mathewson, and Honus Wagner. They gave up rights to two of them last year.
-
What does the war have anything to do with baseball storylines

I think that would make a great storyline for MLB 25. And I love the HOF suggestion, too. Or maybe something about the first or an early World Series. There are many places they can go.
-
Yeah no war has nothing to do with baseball

Check out the history of baseball during war times. Between players barnstorming in WW1 to avoid it to superstars pausing their career to fight in WW2, there are a ton of stories that link war and baseball.

So you're looking for a 1942-style minigame for Storylines?!?

Why is the Jeter storyline viable but not a Ted Williams war storyline? I think it's a great idea.

If he's back in the game, they could very well do a Storyline revolving around Ted Williams and while I can see them mentioning his wartime service as it definitely deserves recognition, it isn't going to be the central point for obvious reasons.
That mode is about reliving specific moments on the field. Hitting and pitching. You can despise the Yankees all you want, but Jeter is a big name who played in a lot of big games and got some big hits so it makes sense he got a program.

Also … do not forget that the majority of players are „younger players“. The maybe do not know exactly, who Ted W is in the first place … Total different case on Jeter (although it is a shame, comparing Jeter to Ted )

Exactly. Jeter isn't Ted Williams, but Ted Williams also isn't Jeter when it comes to marketing a game to your core consumer base. Jeter has been retired for a decade now so there is a new generation of fans who never even saw him play, but he is still relevant and marketable which is what matters most with these annual sports games.
A program dedicated to Ted Williams? Absolutely. But one that just focuses on his war efforts? Who are you appealing to exactly?

I'll take former The Show Legends, Jimmie Foxx, Ted Williams, Ty Cobb, Rogers Hornsby, Yogi Berra, A-Rod, Troy Tulowitzki, Carlton Fisk, Walter Johnson.

A. Anything half-way realistic on the war front threatens the E-rating.
B. Game is sold worldwide. I know there aren't as many German and Japanese purchasers, but however many they do have aren't going to want to buy a game where they're depicted losing a war.
C. A Williams war storyline works great in Call of Duty. MLB The Show, not so much. -
You missed Turk Wendell. #1 player they need to add for 2025.
Should be cheap too, just buy the dude some licorice
