Soto would be the obvious guess.
Elly De La Cruz is also not a bad guess. Maybe that is why he doesn't have a 99 yet so that they can offfer a 99 version as a preorder bonus.

I understand if its Elly de la Cruz, but in my opinion, it has to be bobby witt. with the season he had, I think he's deserving of the cover athelte

For SDS I think it is less about who is deserving and instead who they think will sell the most copies.

2015 - Puig ( NL West)10 Years - One Central division player. They like their big names from the east and west coast teams.
I'd love to see a guy like Witt Jr get it, or someone else from a team that has never been on the cover in the last 19 iterations but in the end they want to choose somebody whose face on the cover and every marketing push on the web and elsewhere will help sell the game.

SDS is a PC-obsessed company, overtly so. The cover selection won't have as its top criteria statistical performance. If that had been at the top, the cover for MLB 24 would have been Matt Olsen, Ronald Acuna, or Shohei Ohtani. Acuna wasn't selected because of a contract conflict with another baseball video game company. Ohtani was not selected because he was the cover athlete on a previous release. That left Olsen, and it shouldn't have been a tough choice.

and Baez shouldn't have even been on the cover. it should have been someone like bellinger or acuna, maybe even degrom.

Doubtful.
He was just on the cover in 22 and they have not duplicated cover athletes since Joe Mauer was on both MLB 10 and 11.
If they were to go repeat then I could maybe see Judge getting it since his cover was back in 2018.
I am expecting Elly or Soto although I would not say no to getting Pujols back in the game and putting him on the cover. But it is probably too soon for them to add him back.

I don't anticipate a legacy player, even a hall of famer, being selected. I'm pretty sure MLB wants to see their current athletes put on the covers. This is a marketing decision far more than a statement of honors. And when it comes to honors, nothing tops the plaque in Cooperstown and of course, Ricky has one!
