offline only

@chucky97___ Yeah I get your point but my question is, do you really have that faith in them to do that when or if it is next gen only?

Just curious, what do you get out of only playing offline?
I just enjoy the experience more. Many reasons have been stated here already.
I can pause without annoying my opponent.
The CPU won't quit mid homerun.
The CPU won't quit when losing
The CPU won't use bunt cheese
The CPU won't use R2 spam.
The CPU won't disconnect their controller and try to see if I will accept the quit message. As an old man at this point I have just never felt the need to compete against or compare myself to other gamers. It is probably also why I don't care about trophies or achievements.
There is no way I can play online now with the current disengagement rules. I felt like people online ran entirely too much before, now there is nothing to stop people from taking 2nd easily.

I bought the game last year at half price, and the year before that for $10, and found the moments, showdowns, and other missions to be a rewarding challenge. Then I buy the game at full price, and, of course, there's no game content this year.
Similar thing, I bought Madden 23 at half off, and played offline, but started playing online as I got better. The issue being that football has a lot of strategy you can employ, while MLB the Show seems to be almost entirely skill and I'm still just have less than good plate vision and can't do precision movements with the thumb sticks.

@chucky97___ I agree with this BUUUUUTTTTT if other competitive video games with more complex systems can be more balanced then so can this game. Most games with gear have an item score and a MMR. If your item score is 157 you're not going to be matched against a 375. Numbers were arbitrary to express point.
They have simple two ways of matchmaking already: Input difficulty and MMR. Honestly drop input difficulty altogether and make it one universal speed online. Offline should adjustable.
Item rating would be FAR better of a measurement than input timing. -
@AdeptOfMemory Skill based matchmaking ruins games, keep it out of MLB, its ruined to many games I once loved.
-
@nflman2033 trick, when someone takes a step, hold your L2, till it shows you are looking the runner, then throw over.
-
@AdeptOfMemory I dont know honestly, NCAA has to be good, if NCAA is a carbin copy of the old games, then mlb is in trouble, a new hot sports game will push companies to star performing.
-
I mostly play offline unless I have completed TA and SA programs and then play some online. To make significant progress in the programs it seems best to choose either off or online and I have limited time to spend playing.
In general, I find online opponents to be well above my skill level or annoying (spamming R2 and other bs) or both.
For offline, given my abilities, I find playing at All-Star and sometimes HOF to be a challenge, fun and more enjoyable than online games.
I also play OOTP which has a nice off/online combination. Build a team offline and see how they do in simulation leagues against other human teams.

@Dolenz Why is bunting cheese? You don't bunt with Lou Brock?
No, actually I don't. I don't even use the bunt method in Showdowns like many others do.
Mainly, even though I can play some close games on veteran in conquest never bunt.
Now, I don't have Brock (no way I am collecting enough S1 cards) but with him or Victor Scott, stealing second I do almost every time.

We hear the same every year.
This game will be dead when Madden drops
This game will dead when NBA 2k drops. Now you can just add NCAA to that list. I hope the game is good. I always preferred it over Madden. But I see it being no more impactful than the release of the other games. Sure, number will go down and many will flock to the new shiny game but probably not as many as people seem to think.

With NCAA having over a decade hiatus, it’s going to have a much larger, negative impact on MLB The Show’s player base. Can’t compare NCAA coming back after 10 years to annual Madden or 2K
It’s the most hyped sports game release in recent memory

@nflman2033 Because, and this is my opinion grinding against the CPU on rookie, doing the bare min. shouldnt net you as much progress as someone that goes out and grinds online against others. It's hard at times online then just loading up and slugging away on rookie.
You so get extra progress. You get a boost in PXP, which allows you to get the missions completed faster. You also get access to cards, that while aren't really exclusive do to the new BR and Ranked Programs, that you can sell. Anything 'offliners' obtain, thru Programs, aren't sellable.

I'm a offline player as well, although I do have a Nintendo switch online membership still and only play online when I want to or to finish the egg hunt program but that's about it. I take my time going through everything, I did finish all the programs and TA chapter 1 and 2, not even close to any of the bosses in TA chapter 3 and still have to finish the classic mini seasons, the USA conquest map and the mothers day conquest map but I'm in no hurry

@X-FREEZE-OFF-X you're right you shouldnt play online. i dont want to play bad players who dashboard because the game doesnt go their way.
So wait, because someone decided to hold R2 after EVERY SINGLE PITCH and also took MULTIPLE EXTRA STEPS, knowing I could only throw over twice; even though they could still take extra steps, that I'm in rhe wrong for dashboarding on a pitch that I DELIBERATELY hung because they were playing like an @$$hole?
Maybe i DONT want to play online either; as I'm sure more people play like that than people who dont.
-
Before 1999, there was no online play.
I grew up on offline, and I like to have fun playing.
I have ZERO to prove versus other humans, although I do play online team play (EASHL). -

@Ledfoot_19 I just dont believe Online is all RNG and Luck, Even saying that, isnt that how baseball is? One team is free swininging, the other isnt, one team gets fortunate BABIP luck, the other team doesnt, do you want every game to be 2-3 going into the 9th?
No that's not how baseball is....one team doesn't show up free swinging and the other isn't...that's absurd. They don't win on luck either, most times. Both teams stand at the plate and try and select good pitches to hit. Both teams pitchers stand on the mound and try a paint corners. It's skill vs skill. When an MLB player swings late at a pitch so close to his nose it's about to graze that booger hanging from his nostril, and hits it into the upper deck for an opposite field HR to win the 1-0 for his team let me know. That's what happens in online play
-
@Ledfoot_19 teams dont win with luck? Lol why dont you learn a stat called, xba and xbabip, sthe guardians are the kings with winning on luck lmao.
-
For me, I play offline mostly like the other person said where I can hit pause at any time for any amount of time since life happens. I do play BR for the rewards but don't play ranked much because the games are so long. I did turn off messaging for strangers because I know I'm not an all-star in this game, and don't need toxic jerks sending you messages telling you how bad you suck when they live and die for this game. It is annoying. Offline just lets me play at my own pace for fun so I prefer playing that way.
