I'm sitting here playing the Cardinals, and there is a yellow stripe under their team name on the front of their away jerseys. What if the legend is Pujols? That would match the red/gold bat. Wouldn't that would be cool? On the other hand, the Braves have all three colors in their uniform, so Albies is still the majority pick.

The said it’ll be a wild ride so they are obviously bringing back The Wild Horse aka Yasiel Puig with new legend The Wild Thing aka Mitch Williams as the legend cover.

Doubtful, as much as I would like it to be so.

I was just curious so I looked up all the past covers going all the way back to the previous game incarnation (MLB 98) to see who has and has not gotten covers (just the regular edition covers). This has no bearing on who might be the cover this year but I found it interesting

    Has not gotten a Cover

    • Arizona Diamondbacks
    • Chicago White Sox
    • Cincinnati Reds
    • Cleveland Guardians
    • Colorado Rockies
    • Houston Astros
    • Kansas City Royals
    • Milwaukee Brewers
    • St. Louis Cardinals
    • Tampa Bay Rays
    • Texas Rangers
    • Washington Nationals

    Teams with one cover

    • Baltimore Orioles
    • Chicago Cubs
    • Detroit Tigers
    • Miami Marlins
    • Minnesota Twins (two if you count Mauers back to back years)
    • New York Mets
    • Oakland Athletics
    • Pittsburgh Pirates
    • San Diego Padres
    • San Francisco Giants
    • Seattle Mariners
    • Toronto Blue Jays

    Teams with 2 covers

    • Atlanta Braves
    • Los Angeles Dodgers
    • New York Yankees
    • Philadelphia Phillies

    Teams with 3 covers

    • Boston Red Sox
    • Los Angeles Angels

That is fascinating! If Albies is the cover, it will throw the Braves in with the Red Sox and Angels.

What is even more interesting is that in the years that these games have been made, 7 of those 9 teams have actually won the World Series, a couple of them more than once, and they still could not manage a cover.

I can think of several players from those teams that are worthy of a cover.

First Astros game back in 1973 for me, but with the unfortunate recent events ('17) involving my team I really do not think a lot of people want to see any Astros anytime soon on the cover.

@MrDeweyCoXX going back to the Astros incident, what do you think about Altuve?

You believe he had a tattoo, or was cheating with the buzzer.

If he actually did, I find that comical.

    @AfterShockGamer

I'm locked in on seeing which teams truly haven't been represented & which player has been on the most. So I looked at every console game with an MLBPA/ MLB license (RBI Baseball, The Bigs, Backyard Baseball, etc. Alternate covers still not included)

    Has not gotten a Cover

    Cincinnati Reds
    Kansas City Royals

    Teams with one cover

    Cleveland Guardians
    Colorado Rockies
    Miami Marlins
    Pittsburgh Pirates
    Tampa Bay Rays
    Texas Rangers
    Toronto Blue Jays
    Washington Nationals* [Guerrero— Expos]

    Teams with 2 covers

    Baltimore Orioles
    Chicago White Sox
    Houston Astros
    Milwaukee Brewers
    Minnesota Twins [Mauer x2]
    Oakland Athletics
    San Francisco Giants
    Seattle Mariners

    Teams with 3 covers

    Detroit Tigers
    Los Angeles Dodgers
    Philadelphia Phillies
    San Diego Padres

    Teams with 4 covers

    Arizona Diamondbacks [Schilling x2]
    Atlanta Braves
    New York Mets [Piazza x2]

    Teams with 5 covers

    Los Angeles Angels [Guerrero x2]
    Chicago Cubs [Sosa x3]

    Teams with 5+ covers

    St. Louis Cardinals (6) [Pujols x 5]
Boston Red Sox (10) [Ortiz x4, Ramirez x2]
New York Yankees (15) [Jeter x8, Giambi x4]

Bonus: Some games had pictures featuring team logos on obscured players including:

    • LJN MLB: SD, SF, STL, CHC
    • Nicktoons MLB: NYY, DET, ATL, STL, LAD, PHI
    • RBI 14: LAD, OAK, ATL, BOS, STL, DET, PIT
    • Wii Superstars: STL, NYM, MIL, CLE, ATL, TEX

Player Specific Games:: These games had player on the cover but no team logo

    • Mike Piazza
    • Frank Thomas
    • Tommy Lasorda
    • Sammy Sosa
    • Cal Ripken, Jr
    • Rodger Clemens
    • Reggie Jackson
    • Earl Weaver
    • Pete Rose
    • Chris Berman— ESPN
    • Ken Griffey Jr (4)

Going through all the console games covers showed me

    • You'll find alot of Griffey Jr, Jeter, Pujols & Jason Giambi
    • Factoring in Rose representing CIN & if you count the Expos & Nationals as the same team— Kansas City Royals fans, YOU HAVE ZERO cover athlete representatives across over 30 years of console MLB games

Instead of 1 or 2 current Major Leaguers they should keep it one current and one past star like last year.

MLB22 only had Ohtani. MLB20 only had Baez. It’s possible MLB24 only has one player on both covers.

It seems to me that the second cover adds something to the game. Like Jeter added the captain card because he's the captain or there being 42 special "42" cards to represent Jackie Robinson. With Ohtani, the two way player was added, so no secondary cover was needed.

While you’re tabulating all these cover athletes add in the 6 Toronto Blue Jays for Canadian versions of the game from 2012-2017, Jose Bautista got it twice. The Padres, Rangers x2, Pirates and Orioles from the Korean versions from 2006, 2014-2017. Shin-Soo Choo got it twice for Texas. And the Orioles 3 times and Marlins 2 times all for Wei-Yin Chen for the Taiwan covers. Since your tagging in random games and all.

I think you forgot World Series Baseball. Another random game but one with the MLB license.

    Dodgers
    Giants
    Indians
    Braves x2
    Red Sox
    Yankees x3
