Bought the game on Christmas and was shocked to see that I have just several days to complete all those missions, Conquest and Showdown.

Making content expire is the definition of pay to play. Why else would these expire when they do? New users around Christmas has been a thing for a very long time. Kind of confused.

Likely they only have the WBC rights for 2023 and those rights expire for SDS in 2024

@eatyum Then shouldn't all WBC content be pulled then if that's the case? Keeping all the cards, but getting rid of the program to earn the cards 🤔

@Cubs309 There is a difference between offering content to grind, and having the cards themselves. If I bought a t-shirt from Company A that has a MLB License, when they lose those rights I don't have to give the T-shirt back. But they can't offer that t-shirt anymore in the future

@eatyum You got me confused. First you said possibly the WBC content expires. If that was the case the actual content would expire. Not all the moments, missions, Showdown etc.

It's alright not to know, but it's the doubling down around here that gets me. Grinding a card doesn't mean you "purchased" it. It's possible the WBC contract expired, but all content would have to go. Not just the mini modes.

And we don't have to argue about this. SDS could easily answer this.

But isn't doubling down on something you don't know exactly what you are doing here.

None of us know the real reason it expires. None of use know what the terms of the agreement were. Basically none of us know and SDS will not tell us so you saying that all content would have to go is you simply doubling down on something you don't know.

The analogy of the t-shirt doesn’t work here. When you buy a shirt, you own it. When you buy a video game, you own nothing but the disc and package it comes in (that is, if you don’t buy the digital version). All content can come or go at the company's terms (in this case, Sony).

If the cards go away, they go away. I feel bad for those who buy the game late and don’t get to enjoy them.

Like @Dolenz_PSN said, we don’t know will happen until it does. The cards may stick around (because of collections), without any way to earn them. It is a bummer.

@Dolenz thank you for showing him doubling to. I am 99.9% sure I'm right, but obviously I have no actual proof to show. Only that in the entire history of the game they've never removed actual cards from players inventory, only the ability to earn said cards.

The programs expire but whatever you have earned remains in your inventory. You just can’t get the cards you haven’t acquired yet.

If I buy MLB The Show 17 on a fleamarket, then I cannot play online … It is my possession but their rules. WBC-content was not just recently given an expiry date … The Verdict: Bad luck, have fun debating that (fun fact: The real good WBC-cards are in the shop, go and spend your stubs there)

This is a tricky one for sure.
It's the disadvantage of not buying the game earlier. In all fairness, there was a lot of time to complete the WBC if you bought the game day 1, or even 2 months in.
Server closing is different from an expiry, but that's the tough break after you thought you had a break, buying this on sale!

SDS has never removed a card from the game. Even when the player on the card was indicted for sexually assaulting a 13 year old.

But they have (and will) stop circulating said card.

@SaveFarris I'm surprised you didn't mention Alomar, but I can think of someone else who will. Lol

Exactly. They said it back in October when they announced the removal of the players from the 11/3 live roster update for offline play.

Edit: It’s on game update 21 to be exact.

With the exception of the free agents, all the WBC players arguably have better cards elsewhere in the game... so... shrugs
