Delayed double steals
-
Is there any way to properly do a delayed double steal with runners at the corners? I'll send the first runner but then the runner at third will automatically slide back into third as the catcher is throwing, thus negating the opportunity to send him home.
-
I mean, you could always try to drive the runner in from third by hitting, instead of cheesing… just a thought.
-
Indeed.
In this game, however, there are some bad animations that can happen to the defending team. It’s also been my experience that usually, players that try to steal home are the ones that got on by walks, bunts, and then take extra steps over and over, trying to steal.
It’s not very baseball. That said, what happens if you take a bunch of extra steps with your runner on third and THEN send your runner at first?
-
Do you even know what I'm wanting to do? If you take a long lead from any base the pitcher just steps off. I'm wanting to send the runner at first, have him draw the throw and then the runner at third goes as soon as the catcher throws to second
-
@Bisko I’m sure there is a way to do it but I wouldn’t know how. My best guess would be “steal all” as the catcher is throwing to get the runner at second.
-
@Bisko If it’s an automatic dive into 3rd then I’m gonna guess at some point it was an exploit and was unfortunately removed. Similarly to how you can no longer throw out a runner at first on hard line drives to right. That was happening very frequently and had to be completely removed.
-
With all due respect, Bisko, the best offensive strategy is to hit the ball.
Yes, I know what you’re trying to do. In this game, I think it 100% qualifies as “cheese”.
I think I can remember twice in the entire mlb season last year where this strategy was used.
That said, you do you. In this game, you can score from second on a bunt, and magically score from third even when the catcher has the ball and is waiting at the plate. If you take a bunch of steps off third, you can even score if the pitcher throws over. Not exactly the most sportsmanlike play.

@fubar2k7
Not completely removed! I actually managed a 9-3 putout once this year. I was shocked. It was probably pretty flukey; I’ve never figured out why my player at first base was so close to the bag that once. Ran to the base and I think actually tagged the runner? But indeed the game recap logged a 9-3.

If the 1B dives and misses the ball he might go and cover first. So I stand corrected.

Nothing is cheesy about getting on via the walk. That said, I have noticed it is often particularly difficult to throw strikes when your opponent is playing this style. You have to wait out the holding of R2, step off, etc.
-
@Bisko No, it's cheesing. Why do you guys always act like it's not exploiting when you know it really is?
-
@Bisko SDS already gives you cheesers way too much leeway as it is. I suck as a hitter online, and I have never even thought about this "strategy" let alone complain that I can't pull it off.
-
@RevCuddyer I got lucky once online and have done it semi regularly offline on the 2020 version. You need a combination of a slow batter, a ball barely out of range of the second baseman, and a right fielder with a strong throwing arm.
-
have your runner on second steal, press R2, get him in a run down, then angle you thumbstick to send the runner from third and let the button mashing of a rundown proceed.
