Delayed double steals
-
@halfbutt_PSN Don't forget the occasional 2 base sacrifice fly on balls deep into some of the gaps in these stadiums.
-
@fubar2k7
Not completely removed! I actually managed a 9-3 putout once this year. I was shocked. It was probably pretty flukey; I’ve never figured out why my player at first base was so close to the bag that once. Ran to the base and I think actually tagged the runner? But indeed the game recap logged a 9-3.

If the 1B dives and misses the ball he might go and cover first. So I stand corrected.

@Bisko_NSW are you playing vs CPU or vs Human?
@halfbutt_PSN what is cheesy about getting on base via walk?
-
@Red_Ted_is_back
Nothing is cheesy about getting on via the walk.That said, I have noticed it is often particularly difficult to throw strikes when your opponent is playing this style. You have to wait out the holding of R2, step off, etc.
-
@Red_Ted_is_back vs cpu
-
@Bisko No, it's cheesing. Why do you guys always act like it's not exploiting when you know it really is?
-
@Bisko SDS already gives you cheesers way too much leeway as it is. I suck as a hitter online, and I have never even thought about this "strategy" let alone complain that I can't pull it off.
-
@RevCuddyer I got lucky once online and have done it semi regularly offline on the 2020 version. You need a combination of a slow batter, a ball barely out of range of the second baseman, and a right fielder with a strong throwing arm.
-
have your runner on second steal, press R2, get him in a run down, then angle you thumbstick to send the runner from third and let the button mashing of a rundown proceed.
-
So in real baseball, you can defend against this tactic...cheat your 2B or SS in front of the base to cut the throw and get the guy at home. You can't do that in the game so it would be a very bush league move to do this and would be heavily abused.
-
@darkblue1876 I just want to be able to play a real game of baseball. It's not about something stupid like "cheesing", I want to use real strategy
-
@GixxerRyder750 or just know it's coming so don't throw to second, like they do in real baseball
-

Well then you're just giving up a free stolen base of second and will complain about that.
-
@GixxerRyder750 no, it's called strategy.
-
Is it classed as cheesing if it’s vs the CPU?
-
I don’t think anyone cares if you cheese the cpu, but it seems like a lot of work to score a runner from third.
-
@Bisko I’m sure it can be done outside of online game play against another human. You just have to be quick to take control of the runner on third and press the button that pauses the runner in place on XBox (it’s R2 on PlayStation) then after the throw by the catcher you would take off for home.
-
@Bisko And when was this ever used as a "strategy"? 1905? You keep saying you want to play a real game of baseball while using exploits that are not part of baseball. You can keep trying to justify it because it's just against the CPU, but we all know that it's NEVER just against the CPU.
-
@darkblue1876 due to the MLB degrading into just power without any strategy not since probably the 90s, but it's still a legitimate strategy. And I don't play online, but if I did there is a simple way to not allow the run to score, just like they would do in real life. This is a rral strategy in baseball. Just because you're too young and naive of the game to not know that doesn't mean it's not.
