Why do they hate Willie Mays?
-
Over the years he is always one of my favorite cards but last year his best card was definitely underwhelming. This new card looks solid but clutch is 84 and this year that matters. How exactly are they measuring clutch on a guy who played 70 years ago? Would it hurt to give him maybe 110 clutch so his card is a no brainer to use?
-
Yep, I agree, I do not understand it either. Very pathetic. Mays is conceivably the MLB goat.
-
That Mickey Mantle is fire though.

Which makes it even more disappointing that Mays' cards do not get the same respect. Weird.

Same thing happens between Bagwell and F Thomas every year too. Thomas gets his awesome 94 MVP card, and they give Bagwell something less. Just give Bags his 94 MVP please. Same hitting as Frank but better defense and speed.

So Mays hit 124 more HR's than Mantle. Mays played the majority of his career at Candlestick where the wind blew in and Mantle played at Yankee Stadium with the very short porch. Mays has been shat on the last two years. His last best card was in 21. Why release a bad card of arguably the best all around player ever? It really is a travesty to do this to him.
-
Residual animosity towards his godson?!?

I wouldnt take it quiet that far. Mays played longer than Mantle, that is all. I would take Mantle over Mays if I had to take either in their prime. Mantle was a career 172 OPS+ and a switch hitter to Mays' 155 OPS+. But both are very comparable as they both were 5 tool players.
But if this is the best card Mays gets this year then it would be a travesty. They should have very similar cards.

Mays says look at my 22 card and then look at my 21 card. Nothing has changed but I'm getting worse.
-
Mays is probably the greatest player of all time. The last few years have not been kind to him.
BUT… Mickey mantle’s name has been struck from the game for some reason? I don’t want to have “Commerce Comet” in CF. That is absolutely asinine. I’ll overlook all the dinosaurs and burned down buildings. Just use the player’s real name when they’re on the field. I don’t care what you plaster across their monster card. Just use their actual name in the lineup. Terrible cartoony, arcadey misstep but SDS.

Ummm maybe that was because Mays didn't drink like a fish and Mantle was an alcoholic. Just saying.
I have love for Mantle too. Just not my favorite player growing up like Mays and Rose were. -
I wonder if Mays and Gehrig get a better 99 down the road. Thought that last year and it didn’t happen but Griffey is also watered down. And there are so many more cards to come out and not that many GOATs left to give them to.
-
Igor one don’t mind the roided content and influx of 99s. But it’s May 12th and we have 99s for -
Trout
Ohtani
Trea
Mays
Mantle
Griffey
Chipper
Babe
Hank
Randy
Musial
Nolan
Wright
Pedro
Gehrig
Goose
Gagne
Machado
Marte
Jazz
Gibson
Sosa
Jeter
McGuire
Papi
Bryce
Lindor
RickeyAnd that’s not including some of the lesser names like Webb, Nen, Severino etc etc.
There have to be some players with multiple 99s right?

I would have never believed it would happen two years in a row. Morgan's 99 is watered down too. I guess its time to get use to it going forward. The game is a changing.

Do you think it’s racism?

They could fix it, he should have atleast 110 clutch.

Is Rose in jail? Prove it. This is about Mays anyway. Maybe your comeback will give you another little vacation.
