POTM for April Guesses
-
Mateo, Rooker, Josh Lowe, Arraez, Steele, Gray, and a reliever
-
Justin Steele for sure

April has ended. Who do you think will be the lightning POTM and who else RS a card? If I thought they’d start with a lightning pitcher, I’d say it would be Sonny Gray. 4-0, 0.77 ERA. But the community probably wants a hitter to kick off the seasons.
My guesses of some that will get cards-
Matt Chapman
Luis Arraez
Max Muncy
Josh Hader (though he already has a 99)
Xander BoegartsJust a few thoughts. Who do you think?
I’m really surprised no one mentions Acuna

Many think they will pass him over because he already has a 97 and is most likely already planned to have a 99 at some point.
Remember last year? Judge, Goldschmidt and Arenado all won POTM and were constantly passed over for that reason.
-
My only question is will POTM cards be Set 1 or Core? I'm pretty close to having all 3 Set 1 players and that would be a nice boost.
-
They’ll be set 1

Of course no one is talking about Jorge Mateo/Yennier Cano. They play for a professional sports team in Baltimore.
Great picks. Both are having great years. I wouldn’t be surprised if both go diamond by the end of the year. Cano has only given up 1 hit all year, and Mateo was already a speedy, great fielder but now that he fixed his timing at the plate the sky’s the limit.

If Justin Steele and Patrick Wisdom dont have a card, ill riot
Wisdom's live card didnt turn to gold last roster update so that must be a sign he is getting a POTM. Muncy too.

The only reason I didn’t pick Acuña is because he already had that 97 Charisma card but if the POTM lightning card is a 99 then it could totally be him. Love that he’s on pace for like 80 steals and hitting for high average.
With that said, I think the lightning player will be Matt Chapman only because Acuña will have a ton of opportunities for big cards this year- Finest, All Star, Postseason etc etc

Marsh gets a card, not the lightning but one of the others
Definitely. I think Bryson Stott should get one as well. .317 average, leads the league in hits, longest hitting streak to start a season in Philly history etc.
Acuna leads the NL in hits not Stott.

When I posted this they both had 39. I never just post stats without verifying. I mean we all have computers in our pockets. But yeah, Acuna is now in front with 42.

I’m fairly confident that your lightning card is Matt Chapman. Acuna won’t get it as he will most likely receive a very juiced card later in the year where as Chapman will very likely regress from his current statistical performance. This isn’t a knock on Chapman as he is an elite defender I just don’t believe his offensive output will continue at the current pace based on his track record of being a very streaky hitter.

You’re good I wasn’t paying attention to the date of that post. So my bad.

It’s all good. Definitely nice to see Acuna having a great start.

if lightning is anyone but Chapman it's a huge miss...

They could very well have a few 99 cards in the program that aren’t the POTM. I remember last year at the end Correa and a couple other players had 99s that weren’t the POTM. There’s a bunch of ways they can do it. Call me crazy but I’d love to see a Yoshida card in the program somewhere and a bunch of other guys I mentioned in another POTM thread.

It’s highly unlikely that the monthly lightning card will be a 99. SDS in years past would hold off on the monthly player being a 99 til later in the games cycle. Last year the first 99 monthly lightning card was Austin Riley’s July card. With that being said this year has been different with respect to 99 overalls. I’m just saying that if previous years hold true this months card won’t be a 99. It would more likely be like a 96 or 97. I guess we will all see come Friday.
-
Steele, Stroman, Hoerner, Belli, Wisdom all deserving of cards.

If they want the card to be somewhat usable it has to be a 99. There’s multiple 99s at every position. Plus I’m assuming it will be a set 1 card which means it’s shelf value is already limited. If it’s not good it’ll be pointless.

Sonny Gray for lightning. That is all.
