'23 LS Collection
-
With so many high diamonds being released day 1 (WBC, Captains, Charisma...), I wonder what the impact will be on the LS collection and the market.
There will definitely be those that have prioritized the LS collection early on that will not due to so many free high diamonds day 1 which will see a drop (probably small) in the market as compared to what it would have been without so many free high diamonds..
Many/most/all of these free high diamonds will be "Set 1", so they would be limited use for only the first two "seasons" in online play.
The LS cards will most likely be "Core" cards and be eligible for online all year long which will probably still have many chase the rewards. I think the big three are going to be maxed-out attributes with all the best active quirks to entice more people to go after them and not rely on the free high diamonds.
I cannot wait to see what the LS collection has as rewards.

Prices for LS will go down more and faster this year than ever. Only way to keep LS prices high would be to have a 99 for each division + the normal 3 (ie 9 total). They may just want to emphasize LS collection less this year too as part of the shake up.
-
Years past the LS collection has been underwhelming as well. Except for the big 3 at the end the team and division collections have been kinda meh. Save for a couple good lefty bullpen guys or something. I might not be in such a hurry to get through it this year, and can save some stubs.

You forgot about the captain feature. I suppose, the WBC cards are not MLB cards. So it probably has value to have to have the LS cards …
-
To reiterate on what yoshi24 stated....I think LS cards will start high and stay high because of the new captain feature. Guys can take a theme team into RS or MS or CNQST in April and be competitive. In "22" which was my first year I played a TON but didn't see many theme teams till late game cycle.

Actually, if the Randy Arozarena card they revealed on twitter last night is anything to go by, the WBC cards will count towards captains (Randy’s card clearly says Rays on it).

I definitely agree here. Yes, the free diamonds from TA and WBC will be great cards but I’m confident the top 3 LS, and even the other 6 division rewards are worth pursuing.

That's what I'm most curious about. With these crazy high diamonds being available at launch, how will they be able to keep some of the collection rewards relevant or just even worth the grind?
I know it depends on how expensive an individual team collection is, but as an example what good would an 87 overall Mark McGwire for Oakland be when there are way better options already available?
Really interested to see how this all balances out.
-
Fully expect live series collection rewards to be better to compensate. 99s for divisions, 95-97s for the higher end teams, even 92s for the Tigers, Pirates, and Royals etc
-
Top 3 LS are always killers. Randy v.1 in 22 and Chipper in 21 were full-cycle cards. (Yes, I know Randy v.2 was better than v.1, but v.1 might have been the second best pitcher in the game, lol.)
Because of this, the LS collection will be a bear, like always.
Last year I pulled 4 Trouts when he was still green lights and 3 or 4 Acunas when he was still high, so I lucked out. I expect the LS Gods to rebalance the scales this year. And that hurts, because $99 is all SDS is getting from me...

Collection awards will be Core set while the crazy high diamonds are Set 1.

Not sure how much that will matter with set 1 not rotating until July and by then we will likely have gotten a ton of equally high set 2 cards. Unless they completely change LS rewards, I just don’t see them being nearly as expensive this year as they have been in the past (especially since there are way more things to spend stubs on early).
-
The value will be in that the main rewards will be core cards so they are eligible in any season.
I think it's safe to assume that the big 3 collection cards are Jeter, Big Mac and Sosa. This are some of the most request and desired players this community has asked for. That alone will drive up prices for the first bit as I suspect that will be the only place to get those 3 players minus Jeter and his low diamond free card
-
With the latest reveals, i could see 99 Jeter being The AL reward, 99 Sosa the NL and 99 Mcgwuire the Big collection reward.
-
Sosa and Big Mac would be controversial choices for one of the final 3. I think Jeter has too low power to be considered for the big reward.
We'll see!

Jeters best card will have a ton of power. They are going to juice his cards soooooo bad.

Today's twitter vid, to me, all but confirms the LS Collection Series rewards:
AL: MS McGwire (49 Rookie HR as an A)
NL: Awards Sosa (MVP)
MLB: Sig Jeter -
