I’m sure it’s no different than any other legend. Probly have to negotiate rights with the family?

Yes, it would … but putting out every Elite NL star would destroy the season-element (if you believe in the blog post, that season 2 is for 2024). SDS surely wants to save some of the big ones for next year … Imo that does not rule out Gibson (or that „one more thing“) for 2023 …
To me, it is probably a collection reward (if not the top one), besides Jeter

This is just Season 1. Next year there will be 8 more players in Season 2, and so on, and so forth. There is a description of how they are doing this and the players for this year on their website,

Yeah it looks like no Gibson this year but this is a nice start.
As to the guy that was talking about Jackie Robinson, he wasn't in the Negro Leagues for as long as majority of the other guys like Gibson, Paige, etc. The fact that he was a great ballplayer and had other intangibles as well as youth on his side is why he was the one handpicked by Branch Rickey to come play for the Dodgers and in the process break the color barrier. Jackie wasn't a scrub or subpar player by any stretch of the imagination, so I feel like his greatness is still warranted... had he just been a token then that would be another conversation but Jackie arrived in Brooklyn and his play backed up his stature as being "the first" and we all know what followed.
It's a shame that the Black community typically gravitates to basketball and football but seeing some of the Black talent in the game today still gives me hope that baseball is a viable athlete avenue for Black boys and girls... I played PAL and Little League and still kick myself for not trying out for my HS team.

Baseball isn't perceived to be as sexy and exciting compared to basketball and football. Shame, but most kids want to be like Kobe or Jerry Rice. Not Tony Gwynn.

Oh trust me I know... the two names that come up the most in this day and age are Ken Griffey Jr and Barry Bonds... me personally I was fortunate enough (despite their off field issues) to be a fan of the Mets during the Gooden/Strawberry years, so maybe I was spoiled when it came to watching Black talent on the field.
I think that's why I was happy with the choice of Jazz and later Jeter as the cover athletes this year.

I wasn't happy with Jazz but that obviously has nothing to do with the color of his skin or the fact that I don't appreciate Black talent in baseball. It's because he hasn't done very much in this league yet and I felt others were way more deserving. But at the end of the day it's just a cover, I don't really care THAT much.

When it comes to Jazz you have to look at the excitement factor. I feel like him getting hurt kinda slowed him down with his momentum... I definitely thought Julio Rodriguez or a second cover for Aaron Judge was going to be the play... kind of had an outside hope that it would be a Mets player once I saw Donovan Mitchell on the stream but once I saw Jazz pop up I saw the vision... dude has charisma jumping out of him and whenever he gets traded or signs elsewhere in free agency we are going to see a megastar in this league if his game continues to translate with a larger sample size.

I hear ya, but I guess that excitement factor just doesn't apply to me when it comes to him. I don't think there's a more exciting player than J-Rod right now, so if you want to market off of that "excitement" factor I think he would've been the guy that everyone could agree is THAT guy.

Possibly. Personally I think they wanted J-Rod but couldn't get the deal done for one reason or another. Then they settled for Jazz. Pure speculation on my part.

possible. If true its an excellent backup plan given all that they did with the trailer. Him being a player that plays the game didn't hurt either.

I can't believe they don't have Moses Fleetwood Walker.
Again SDS does not know anything baseball. Only graphics.
C'MON.... Yes Josh Gibson is in the game. I seen the card displayed.
It is still not enought to entice me to buy the game or play the game. Just more cards in the equation that won't be useable in later months of playing the show.

What excitement factor? From the very small portion of Show hardcores who actually know who he is? Your casual MLB fan has no clue who he is…and even for serious MLB fans, Jazz is just another average player who could be good. I still fail to understand the hype…but it seems to make some of you happy.

What excitement factor? From the very small portion of Show hardcores who actually know who he is? Your casual MLB fan has no clue who he is…and even for serious MLB fans, Jazz is just another average player who could be good. I still fail to understand the hype…but it seems to make some of you happy.
I think it's pretty obvious why Jazz is on the cover now. I didn't like the choice at the time but it all makes sense now.
Use your head

This is just Season 1. Next year there will be 8 more players in Season 2, and so on, and so forth. There is a description of how they are doing this and the players for this year on their website,
It's a shame that the Black community typically gravitates to basketball and football but seeing some of the Black talent in the game today still gives me hope that baseball is a viable athlete avenue for Black boys and girls...

You clearly haven't seen a Jazz Chisholm highlight or clip... I would've thought the trailer would've been enough for you to see atleast glimpses but I guess not.
Not saying you specifically but you need to get over the fact that Mike Trout isn't going to do the MLB The Show cover.
I get that people call him "The Best Player in the Game Today (and possibly) Ever" but the same amount of casuals that see a Jazz Chisholm highlight see a Mike Trout one... there are tons of players that are more visible than Trout... I didn't want to single Mike Trout out but every year talk of the cover comes out his name jumps out like he's a no brainer to get the cover when in fact I feel like if anyone should get a The Show cover but might be in the same contractual situation as Trout for appearing on the cover of another game is Mookie Betts.

Who mentioned Mike Trout? Don’t think anyone did.
And I’m a huge baseball head. I know all about Jazz. All I’m saying is there are more than a dozen better established names who were better options than him. Show a baseball fan a picture of Jazz and say “what player is this?” And I’d bet atleast 6 out of 10 can’t name him. That’s not a player that should be the cover and face of THE ONLY BASEBALL GAME ON THE MARKET. I mean if your play is young an exciting, give me Harris/Julio/Yordan/Vlad/Bo/Gimenez among others.

He is a big omission for sure. Assuming that the rights to all of these players are also done on an individual basis just like the MLB Legends, I wonder if there were issues acquiring his likeness? Were they unable to make contact with his estate or was there maybe just no interest on their end? Not trying to give SDS any excuses, but some of these things may be out of their control.
I am sure they are very aware of his superstar status within that era and wanted to have him in the game, but if they aren't able to get the rights to one player does that mean they should just never do any Negro Leagues content because Josh Gibson in unavailable? And this isn't coming from a sense of complacency, but I'd rather have what we are getting with this new Negro Leagues program than nothing at all because it is LONG overdue and the door is still open to expand on the roster in the future.
This 100%. Anyone who thinks they didn't try to get him is an idiot. His people have to be pricing him out this year. It's a shame.

Show those same people highlights of Jazz Chisholm Jr. and they'll ask the same question except their interest will be peaked as to who he is and wondering how good is he really... Jazz is the guy... in addition to being an up and coming player he is also an avid player of The Show which is a bonus for promoting the game. It's a WIN WIN for the company... I bet half these cover athletes for alot of these sports games don't know their way around a controller... seeing Tom Brady play Madden would be one of the few times I'd actually pay to see the stream if that was the only way to view it.
