He did everything on the field
Except put the team ahead of his own ego when ARod joined the roster.
By not giving up shortstop? You think that cost the team Championships? If anything it probably prolonged Arod’s career since he dealt with injuries later on.

While I think he’s being a baby I don’t think he’s wrong about Jeters speed. The game is different now, steals are rare nowadays. Steals also don’t necessarily equal speed. Jeter should probably max around 80 speed if they want to be generous. His best card will probably be able to reach 90 thoWhy is Jeter on top of a building? That's all I'm wondering. Didn't he play shortstop?
If he was an iron worker I'd understand it a little better
I’m a Union Ironworker and a lifelong Yankee fan and I have no issue with Jeter on top of a building.
I do take issue with “light hitting defensive shortstop”. The Jeter hate is so ridiculous. It makes me wonder if many of you have actually followed baseball for any appreciable amount of time. He is an all-time great player. He did everything on the field and was as cool/calm a player that came through clutch time and time again.
Here’s where I miss counting stats. I get it, advanced Sabre Metrics are important. Sure, they make reading a baseball article akin to a calculus paper and completely rob the sport of its romanticism, but they give us things like launch angle and the shift. Maybe I’m old, but I miss looking at a baseball card to see how many RBIs a guy had or how many times he touched home plate. Not an OPS+ that requires Will Hunting to figure out the equation.
Jeter is 6th all time in hits. 6th. For all the players who have stood in a major league batter’s box in the last 140+ years, there are 5 people with more hits than Derek Jeter. 5!!!!! This should be the end of the debate on whether he was a great player. But if more is needed. He has 5 rings. In modern baseball, that is Brady Esque. He’s 10th all time in Runs. These are not negligible stats.
Is he the GOAT? Of course not. But he was a star player in the biggest market and all he did there was win, hit and score.

Very well said. This logical way of looking at it is lost on many people.

Jeter played for 20 years and only twice did he lead shortstops in offensive WAR.
Buddy wasn't even the best shortstop on the team....
He did lead the league in giving famous women STD's tho

people can stop complaining that he is not in the game. I feel like everytime SDS announces a new legend player everyone clamors over Jeter. Now the question is who is the love child that everyone will want next?
Until they complain that SDS 'did him dirty'.

6th in Hits all time. That’s all that needs to be said. Again, not the greatest ever but dude had more hits than every other major league hitter in history other than Pete Rose, Ty Cobb, Stan Musial, Hank Aaron and Tris Speaker. He also won 4 more rings than ARod and 5 more than Nomar and Tejada.
I don’t understand why it’s either he’s highly overrated or he’s the GOAT. He is neither. He was a great player who won a lot, hit a lot and scored a lot.

Can't confirm, but irrelevant for SDS's purposes.
(Kind of. So long, Kirby Puckett!)Will Jeter be the worst legend in the game? Absolutely not! At least so long as Harold Baines and Huston Street still draw breath. But he's not an inner-circle Mantle/Ruth/Mays guy and never was.
-
While I dont think he will play great in the game but he did play the game well and the right way. You never saw him doing controversial things. Never linked to PED never ruined a players career cough Machado cough. He did play hard when the games counted ie diving into the stands for the ball. ARod was more worried about breaking a nail.
With that being said he is not the GOAT. Even at shortstop I would say that would be Wagner. I am a Red Sox fan and I think Jeter was a great player.

Quite a massive list. Basically a dime a dozen shortstop.

20 years ago, no one cared about WAR. I still don't and am a baseball lifer.
What Jeter being on also means is that people that frown on video games are going to take a closer look, I think, and maybe convert. -

20-25. A Full Roster seems right and appropriate, no?
and where in this post did anyone say he is as Legendary as those guys?
You yourself called him an "all-time great player [who] did everything on the field". Maybe it's just semantics, but it sounded like you were placing him in the highest of echelons which I don't think he qualifies for.
-
I just want to talk to the guy who was arguing that Jeter wouldn't sell more copies of the game.
The same Jeter who unveiled his cover on national television last night with millions watching.
-
I look forward to SDS over rating his deservedly common defense to diamond.
-
Listen, guys … I am from Germany … I follow Baseball since the 1991 World Series, got into SABR-metrics a little bit … My favourite players are Rickey Henderson and … Derek Jeter.
So, imo you can be a fan and still say this about Jeter:
- He probably never deserved any of his gold gloves (he played in the same league as Vizquel and A-Rod, who where clearly inferior) but got them being a Yankee (hey, even Palmeiro once got one playing a few dozens of mediocre defense there)
- He was a very very good Shortstop, if you combine everything he brought to the table, especially his baserunning (many times over 30 SBs is just one component, he ran the bases extremely well) and Career OPS of .817
- He is an awesome legend of the game (even if you do not like the Yankees, which a lot of you people seem to do. But that does not make him worse)
- He won 5 rings and was part of maybe the best dynasty baseball had in the last 30 years
- He had an 71.3 career WAR (Baseball-reference). The top 3 ever are Honus, Ripken and A-Rod, starting at 95 WAR. That sums his status as a shortstop up pretty well
- But still: He was awesome and it is effing awesome to have him in the game
-
This is going to be a fun year of Derek Jeter slander when he performs/doesn't perform the way people want him to... it's going to be hilarious... I've wanted Jeter in the game for the longest and now that I'll most likely be online from launch I can't wait to find out how to get him and grind out Diamond Dynasty hopefully not spending as much money as I've spent in years past beyond purchasing the game.

I’d have to say he’s one of the best hitters of my time. Wonder how his cards will look?
