What I really hope is that SDS takes a massive hit in sales and finally understand that pretty cards will not keep the community happy… gameplay needs work, a lot of it.
And I hope that some billionaire will give me a million dollars. We can all hope for all kinds of unrealistic things.

I mean the game is in a REALLY bad place right now. Player count is non-existing. Twitch viewers are at an all-time low and have been for months. These are all factors that should really entice them to overhaul the game. But then again, it is SDS yeah so who knows.

New clue-High Voltage.
„High Voltage“ was the first AC/DC-album and an album of the Jazz saxophonist Eddie Harris.
Folks … first of all: I think, the cover athlete does not matter at all.
Maybe it is someone whose licensing is cheap (more money to earn or for devs).
Maybe it is not Julio, because SDS chooses his cover athlete way ahead. I watched a lot of the Shohei-cover-videos. In one of them, they said, that they had the shohei art work in summer …
To me, therefore it is extremly possible that it is not the ROTY but another one …I think, it is Jazz … he was there 8 months ago (the video got released on May 21. He is kind of a community favorite and flashy enough to do commercials

I agree the cover athlete doesn’t mean much other than… the new game is finally on its way and news is being released. Jazz is fine, just really hasn’t done much yet. But like you said, that really doesn’t matter much.
I’d like to campaign for Team Affinity. Bring it back.

I'll reiterate that the cover athlete does not matter one bit for those for those of us who buy it year in and year out. There was a time when it certainly mattered more, back in the days when people actually went into stores and browsed games. A recognizable cover athlete made a difference.

I obviously don't know what their budget is but Ohtani, Tatis Jr, Harper, Judge and Griffey do not seem like they have cut corners when it comes to licensing.

The licensing hardly costs them money because it's part of the MLBPA deal. It would if the cover athlete would be a legend, since they're not in the MLBPA licensing deal. If anything it's just a kind gesture towards the player in question to grow their status and name even further.

I highly doubt that the MLBPA licensing allows them to make any player in the league their cover athlete and use them in all their marketing and advertising. If so then we would have had Trout or even Pujols by now.

I think they get a small percentage of the amount of copies sold. Like royalties. That number will be negotiated, and obviously the more star power an athlete has (like Mike Trout) the higher they want that number to be.

Lol, it really isnt that bad, unless you add the competitive part. I gave up on it this year. Played 12 RS games and still dont think I have even used my first free BR run! I started to get pretty good and they took it all away lol.

Why on earth would Jazz be on the cover? I keep hearing that all the clues point to him. Can someone help me understand why they would pick him?
-
This game really is in a bad place…”stick skills” absolutely do not matter. Contact swing and animations are horrid. Created stadiums and players should be gone. I also think that every ranked game should be mandatory zone hitting.
-
I don‘t get the outrage of you people … I mean, maybe Julio is a good choice, a very good choice … choosing the best player in the last decades (Mike Trout) would be awesome … Lots of players would be deserving.
But … honestly … you could think that Jazz is like a Joe Random negative WAR-player, if you just follow the discussions everywhere. Sure, he is not comparable to those mentioned above. But he had 139 OPS+ and he is marketable. So: Why not … and: It is just a cover of a hopefully awesome game

I mostly agree with you. I don’t think Jazz is the number one best choice for the cover but who really cares what player is on the cover? I almost think it would be cooler to highlight up and coming players rather than established stars but they are less marketable so doubtful.
On that note, as long as it’s not deGrom in a Rangers jersey I will be happy.

What if it's Xander Bogaerts. He's from Aruba, now with the Padres.

Am I the only one who doesn't care one but who'll be on the cover? I'd prefer them to save the resources and hire some quality devs instead to code an enjoyable game. That being said, if I'd have to bet money I'd say it's Julio.
Are the Devs the same as they were in 16 & 17? Those who know, know these were the last games that played the best. And yes the cover doesn't matter.
I agree sir! ‘17 was my best year!

Most of us here don't really care. We probably all have our preferences but in the end it won't sway us one way or the other. It's hard for us to understand that it might actually make a difference to more casual consumers but I am sure that it probably does sell a few more copies.

Jared Fogle could be the cover guy, and Jeffrey Dahmer the expensive version and I would still buy the game
