I haven't played Madden in years but at one point I'd play 2K, Madden and The Show and really only head to head with friends.
To the OP's point, I do think The Show has had some misses recently most notably Griffey but I think that is just part 1 of a much bigger program.
I play both and the biggest issue is time. Both games force you to stay engaged with expiring timeliness for promos. It almost becomes a job. Now if you work a real job that pays the bills you only have so much time for that second job. You have to choose one game over the other if you want to stay competitive without spending real money.

I play 2K but not MyTeam so, I’ll still play both games next month, might be a little away from MLB while I upgrade MyPlayer to 99 and get the necessary badges to play in the ProAm and The Rec with my squad.
This will happen every year, especially around this time when collections are done and most have stubs in the bank to buy cards.

2K? Wrestling, Golf and Basketball all seem to come out around the same time.
NBA 2K for me. I just play myplayer/park/rec. it’s a nice change. I only get it every 2-3 years so it stays fresh for me and I haven’t had it since I’ve gotten a PS5.
Lately I’ve been getting MLB every summer because I love baseball games the most. Usually alternate between Madden and 2k towards the fall.
Madden’s lost a lot of my interest the past couple of years because of how unrealistic it is. I get that it’s a fantasy and unrealistic to have legends/current/dead players playing together but I just can’t stand the out of position stuff. The fact that Derrick Henry was the most overpowered QB from December-on was enough for me to skip at least a year. It’s also a lot harder to go NMS even just doing a strictly Broncos TT. The limiteds make average cards 4-5x what they’re worth.

Based on what? I haven't had any wait times finding online games. I would venture a guess that most switch players are offline only, so you aren't going to know how many if them are playing, and there is a pretty decent chunk that bought this game just for co-op.

The newer game has more hype to it and makes for more exciting content for streamers. Plus by the time Madden comes out MLBTS has been out for what, 5 months? I think people just get burnt out.
All the people who mention the 99 Griffey disappointment as to why more people are going to Madden is comical. How long is the best 99 Griffey gameplay keeping you interested in MLB The Show?

I'm a regular Madden player, still playing The Show. Madden's MUT isn't what it used to be... it's just a giant cashgrab. DD mode is better... but I wish SDS would do something to make online play better, because their servers are pathetic.

I’m not trying to be controversial as I like both madden and mlb but it seems like all the hype has switched to madden. Anyone else noticing this? The forums have been lifeless for the last week or so. Doesn’t seem like people are that juiced up for the content the show is putting out. Just curious what you guys are thinking?

I still watch football and like Madden, but EAs greed has gotten out of hand and the MUT mode is too much of a time or money waste for me. I will probably still get it eventually and play regs... but this will be my first year skipping MUT. I'm sticking with this for my first full year of DD. They had Tillman in MUT a couple years ago... that was pretty cool, I remember him from when I was a kid.

Its the same every year. A group of MLB The Show players bolt for the newest and shiniest Madden.
The rest of us continue to play MLB The Show.
Me, personally. I have no desire to go to Madden.

I’ve played MUT … every … year… since 2011 . I’ve dumped thousands into that game over the years. 99s after 99s I’ve seen it all.
Where with DD.. I played in 16,19.. still played 19 thru 21. I finally picked up 22 and am really enjoying it. Madden can wait . I may launch it Halloween time but I’m not invested in it anymore.

^ This. Tbh these forums have been pretty much dead since 2020, a lot of the good people left (or were banned more recently)
Personally, I think it has to do with the copy/paste formula. the more serious players noticed it and realized the facade that is collecting cards in The Show. And how broken the competitive side is. It just isn't worth our time.. I just post on here every once in a while out of boredom.

For me its the game play. I don't play madden and haven't logged onto the show in 3-5 days (I lost count) The inconsistency in gameplay isn't worth the effort. I haven't quit MLBTS this early since 2018.
