There may be a slight catch in the deal, Hosmer has yet to wave his no trade clause.....

Good point. Hosmer about to get paid! Boras represents Hosmer, Soto and Bell. Hosmer is gonna get a nice cut from somewhere

Doubtful, Hosmer is completely washed up. I'm sure he'll get a 1 or 2 year deal but his contract with the Padres was a total Albatros and part of the reason they couldn't land Scherzer or anyone else last year is because nobody wanted Hosmer with that contract.

I get what you're saying about the rental but he's a rental for 3 playoffs cycles. Plus the Pads have been rebuilding now for 25 years (really more like their entire history). They needed this. If this gets them to a world series and somehow they win. SD can go the rest of eternity boasting 1 championship or at least survive another few decades on a WS appearance.

Ps: I am a San Diegan born and raised. My parents are Cards fans from St. Louis and they are my first love but I know of which I speak. This isn't Boston or LA. 1 professional Championship (of which they have 0) and the Pads are set for years.

I wouldn’t say Hosmer is completely washed up. I think he’s batting .270 something with 8 home runs this season. Sometimes stats don’t tell the whole story. If you make contact and advance a runner that helps the team. He’s definitely not an all star anymore but he’s not bottom tier.

They gave up a ton for a possible rental? If Soto doesn't sign there this could be one of the worst deals ever. And if he does 1 billion tied up on 3 guys? Uhg

Disagree here. They get Soto for 2.5 years while he is 23. Then let someone else pay him $500 million in a couple years and deal with that contract when Soto is a 35 year old DH. Phenomenal deal for the Padres.

The Padres are one of those teams I want to see do well, like the Brewers, Tigers, Reds, & Orioles. I even hope they get that elusive no-hitter, so great for Slam Diego.
I know I'll eat my words if the beat the Mets in the NLCS, though.
Glad Soto is out of the division!

Hosmer to Boston. Gallo to Dodgers…don’t see the point.

So we now have two Bellingers.

Part of me wants to see this pay off for SD with a WS win, because they don't have one. The other part of me will want to laugh if they don't manage to pull out a WS win.

I usually just pick the team who has won the least, never won, or hasn't won more recently. So SD would pretty much qualify against most AL teams.

    C. Jorge Alfaro
    1B. Josh Bell

    3B. Manny Machado
    LF. Trent Grisham

Bro he's been one of the worst players in the entire league the last three years. Every other AB is a groundout to second and he is the laziest defender I have ever seen. Second highest groundball rate in the league last year and no willingness to improve. He's hated by every actual Padre fan. Only the casuals and old people that don't watch the games try and convince people he is good. 5 years in SD and only 0.3 fWAR. He was atrocious

They finally got the no hitter in 2020. No No Joe Musgrove.

Oh man, if the Cardinals can't do it, I'd love a San Diego v. Mets NLCS. Your team is about to get a whole lot better too. Who is there to face Degrom for the Nats now?

I think you meant his WAR is 1.3 this year. Hosmer has never been a power hitter but he has a lifetime batting average over .270. You saying he’s one of the worst players in the league is a stretch. Lol Also you saying that only old people and casuals try to defend him is a comical. I stated what Hosmer brings to the table and he’s far from bottom tier. In the top 50 In the league in batting average and probably close in hits. He’s on pace to have a better year than he has the past few years. I’m a huge baseball fan. Played baseball for a long time and even played ball in college. Chill

I think he’s good. I know a lot of other guys playing worse plus he was in a trade package for Juan Soto. Can’t be too washed up.
