How do you mess up defensive animations THIS badly?

It's pretty comical at this point. The generic ground ball through the hole has gotten lost with all the home runs/[censored] rocket gappers, and now they pretty much took that away too. No bueno

I guess I don't understand why they didn't keep the defense the way it was last year. Would have made their job easier and made the game better.

Because you'd 300 posts about how the game is "recycled" and why SDS doesn't do anything different. Lose/Lose

Rizzo basically dove from first base to second base to make a catch...I hope they adjust it

Last year diving catches were something you actually felt good about. There was a huge risk/reward in the mechanic.

I had Ronald Acuna dive for a ball in Right Center and he looked like he was in a belly flop contest at the local Municipal Swimming Pool. Rizzo dove for a grounder in foul territory and it was like he was shot out of a cannon. I don't get it.

I guess but I feel like defense was not broken last year. Normally people dont care about defense unless it is totally broken, like I believe it currently is. Last year, they added a ton of new catch animations and I felt like cards played defense like their ratings. There definitely was an out of position penalty. They could have left defense as is and worked or added other things.

Its comical at this point. Tatis with 65 fielding looks like superman breaking the sound barrier. I just laugh at this point and look to hit bombs. They cant superman a ball in the stands!

I love diving plays and that they actually work for once but the range needs to be toned down

Every player dives like a super athlete with super human reflexes and gravity & friction turned off. I dont know how anyone thought this change was game worthy.

    1. Unless you have gold or better fielding.....you shouldnt have a dive. Thats the first fix. You dont see even mediocre fielders dive because its a skill and most players dont have it. Is The Show a Simulation or not?
    2. Laterally, you dont slide along the ground then catch the ball -- You catch the ball in the air or just as you hit the ground, then momentum carries you and you slide to a stop. The dive in this game is some weird anti gravity, anti friction slide along the ground INTO the ball......its just ridiculous. The animation is all wrong. The physics are all wrong.
Its next gen - Gravity and friction are possible in the game....use them....or fake it more creatively....games did it successfully long before they had current levels of tech.
    3. Dives are RARE. They shouldnt be happening 5 times a game. There is something completely off when they are happening so often.
If "The Show" is supposed to be more simulation than arcade game....this is important.

It just feels like the game has gone backwards this year.....and the absurdity of how dives now work is one of the reasons.

Those diving animations are reminiscent of that nfl blitz game... from N64 I think?

I have to think SDS is hiring programmers with my skill set in development, which is exactly what you think it is….none at all

I like that diving catches and stops happen more frequently this year, but I think they went a little overboard with it.
