Timing Hitting is an albatross

You can make contact and still be somewhat competitive but nothing will ever be equal or better than zone.
-
Very simple, it's high floor because you don't have to place PCI, but it's low ceiling because you will be punished more by RNG.
You can complain that it shouldn't be allowed in a competitive mode, but you can't say that it's op or the people using it have an advantage. They are at a disadvantage once they get up into the higher divisions.
So if you are losing to a time based hitting player, you should probably either join them or get better with zone.

This method of hitting has been in the game for years. I still don't understand why it's become an issue only this year.

Directional is different than timing. With directional you need to be aware of what kind of hitter is at the plate. Push, pull, extreme pull, etc.
The type of hitter at the plate would determine what you wanted to do with the sticks. Inside/outside/up/down depending on push/pull/etc.
Timing is simply pressing the button at the right time. I used directional before moving to zone and have used zone for years, but I too have tried the new timing option online and I hit everything hard and couldn't strike out. It's definitely here as a crutch for the new player base just like all the foul balls.

You're wrong. When they added directional 2 or 3 years ago it replaced timing even for offline play and they said it's the exact same thing as timing if you don't aim. You never had to aim with directional and you can even turn the arrows and camera shift off completely. And there have been tons of people playing like that online.

You were supposed to aim with the sticks. It's what the whole moving camera inside and outside was for.

It's irrelevant what you were "supposed" to do. The point is, timing only, which was directional without using a direction, has been in online play for years.

LOL...just because you guys were using it to center swing doesn't mean that's how it was originally designed. Just quit

As someone who switched from directional to zone, zone is far superior, or at least it was the in 20 and 21. However, your argument assumes that those who have better skills with PCI should be better. Lets not pretend the game is simple RNG when it comes to hitting. HOw many perfect perfect line drives are caught by the infield? How many dead center fastballs are hit with good timing but end up as an infield pop up? A hung slider is tracked down by a common fielder in the gap. How many homeruns have you hit with an early swing and the PCI well under the ball? Lets just all admit that hitting this year is broken regardless what batting style you play.

Im not talking about directional. I'm talking about timing, it's been in the game for years. They just changed the name from analog to timing, and gave the ability to use the buttons instead of just the analog stick.
It's nothing new and yet everyone acts like it's new and was only implemented to ruin their gaming experience by giving a "crutch" to less skilled players.

First of all when you say stuff like "just quit" you come off like a loser and a child. Maybe you are one, idk. But beyond that, again you miss the point. The point is, you're acting like timing hitting is a new thing this year and it is not. It's been there for years. And as everyone else has stated, zone is superior anyways. So if you're having issues going against timing hitters then you're going to get smoked by decent zone players. The problem is you, not the game. And everyone agrees.

Listen, I’m a zone hitter, always have been. I’m more than competent. Ny issue with timing only or even directional (glorified timing mode) is that you are removing an important USER input such as having to place the PCI in the same pitch. I’ve tested it extensively and I make A LOT more contact overall and still hr’s. It’s anode “dumbed down@ for new players but it totally detracts from vets who fought in the past to make sure timing only was removed from online H2H play.
Why. Why Sony have you brought this No skill nonsense to online competitive play. I’m done unless they either remove it OR make a hardcore mode where it’s zone hitting default.
After 2017 this game has been geared towards the casuals. Sad to say this year is the worst of all. An 0-2 count is a guaranteed foul ball even if they swung through the previous 2 pitches. I am anxious to see what the first gameplay update will be like. I agree with you 100 percent.

Last night I got ten run ruled and couldn’t buy a hit against Stroman on Legend difficulty. Minutes later I ten run ruled someone pitching Corbin Burnes.
Obviously I put the pieces together and became great while searching for my next match.

The “timing hitting cult” should spend less time defending that brain dead mechanic and more time learning how to use a pci…

Supposed to, implies that you had to. You don't have to move the sticks using directional. It's just a way to try and influence how or where the ball is hit.
