I’m just wondering, can a sidewinder/submariner guy like Darren O’Day even throw a high sinker?

I mean, is that even possible with his arm angle and release to throw a pitch above the zone that sinks down into it?

Any actual ball players out there know?

Not a chance in hell can a submariner throw a high sinker.

It depends how you are defining the pitch as a sinker. If you throw sidearm with a screwball release, it will definitely turn over. If you are using the finger placement and ball movement off the fingers, it wont have as dramatic an effect.

    EXACTLY

Sinkers are designed for grounding out and double plays...

Ya, the high sinker is super OP. It’s a video game, not sure they can code it to 100% be real.

Depends on the game, and of course what SDS will allow.

I mean they can throw it but the accuracy is gonna be way off and to keep the movement the Speed will be way slower leading to it hanging high, hence why high sinkers in general should be crushed.

Yeah, I get that it’s just a game, and there will always be exploits. That’s fine.

I was just watching the ball come out of O’Day’s hand and thinking it just doesn’t make sense the way the ball moves. Like I think he would need super human strength to be able to throw that pitch up in the zone like that. His UCL must be shot!

It is possible but it would be super flat, essentially making it useless to throw it.

Even a high fastball for submarine should reduce speed alittle bit. I mean submarine pitchers obviously practiced their life doing it so i cant say it from experience

I threw subby in college, it’s very possible. Most of my misses with the sinker were actually up.

Just watch any Dan Quisenberry videos. He threw quite a few sinkers that were up, and were effective.

I'm a natural sidearmer with natural sink. In real life, a high sinker is like a high change up. You just don't throw it.

And that is because it floats or flattens out?

I wonder if it would be possible to have code that reduces the speed of sinkers up like that, so that it would simulate the pitch flattening out.

If there were a will to do that, I mean.

Sort of both, if that makes sense. It definitely doesn't have hard, sudden break, like it does in the game. You can see it coming a mile away. The exception being an extreme submariner like Taylor Roger's. Anyone else, the sinker just rolls when it's thrown up. Similar to a lazy slider that doesn't really break.

They need to add “meatballs” to the game. Offspeed pitches high in the zone need to be meatballs that expand the PCI or something. This is supposed to be a baseball SIMULATION after all. No pitcher throws high off speed on purpose. Of course I was also clamoring for a “Perfect/perfect” swing result last year to help well struck balls be hits more often and they found a way to screw theta up so I dunno.

There is no chance you released the ball 6 inches from the ground, had it go above the strike zone and then sink back in. Unless of course you were throwing about 55mph.

Right. And I think that’s the point of all this. Balls that, in real life, are thrown exclusively down in the zone (sinkers, change ups, well all off speed really) don’t act the same way up in the zone. A high sinker doesn’t sink at all because you got under it as a submariner. High sliders are “cement mixers” that don’t have the bite they have down in the zone. Etc. That’s one way where this game has failed for years.
