The only way to make it truly like 17 as you described is all bad PCI is not hits, and all good PCI is hits, otherwise BS wins or losses will happen. And 17 wasn't like that way.
All swings outside of the pci should be swings and misses. This is how you solve it.
And then you get complaints about "This was in the PCI, how was this a foul ball?" etc etc.
Also you have to consider the casuals because SDS has to consider the casuals. There has to be a compromise somewhere
Foul balls to the lines would be determined by timing, foul balls straight back would be the balls that are split between inside and outside the pci, or just on the edge.
I’m aware casuals would struggle and obviously pci sizes in general would have to increase slightly. This would also solve all of the people complaining about the home runs as balanced lineups would be far more important just like real life. As for casuals, they can remain just that. Casual. Ranked is a competitive mode and I personally value competitive integrity. I don’t say all this to be a griper or whiner, I’m just putting my two cents in for what would make this game truly competitive. The game we have been playing is no where near competitive.
Sounds reasonable. I'm a VERY average player, can max out about low-800's if I get on a good streak, but I can admit that outer PCI is a huge crutch that keeps at bats going. Like you said, K's would balloon if they got rid of it, so increasing inner PCI would be necessary.
My biggest complaint is that line drives are far too often hit right at fielders -- ridiculously too often. I assume it's just the way the programming is triggering outs, but it's very frustrating to see so often. Hit variety needs a massive upgrade.
I don’t think hit variety is a real problem. I think when the hall is squared up it needs to be a hit, not decide to die 200 feet from the wall

Sorry, can't agree with that 100%. Squared up balls should be hits MORE OFTEN in competitive mode, but surely not always. The % needs to increase by 10-15% I'd say for players to feel like input matters more than RNG in online play.

I misspoke and think we agree more than it appears. My gripe I believe is with changes made to launch angles this year. I am popping out consistently on balls within the pci, this should not be the case. If it is driven to the track for an out or caught on a line I’m significantly less frustrated than when it goes straight up

As a religious player of another series that alot of casuals whine about(NHL), I second this opinion. Casuals are unfortunately where they make their big quick bucks, though. Little Timmy or Down on his Luck Dan buy the game at release, pour the money into it to get the god squad, then stop playing by the ASG.
It's an unfortunate reality that casuals dictate alot of how games are produced and play nowadays

Remember that hit by Luis Gonzalez off Mariano Rivera in the World Series. Jammed him good and it was still a hit… that’s baseball.
And this is a video game....not baseball. 98% of the fan base cant hit a 93 mph fastball in real life.
Games freeze because it's a video game
Mantle playing with Trout because it's a video game.
Created stadiums with dinosaurs...because it's a video game.
Unrealistic ball physics because it's a video game.
We unlock and collect pretty much the same players every year....because......its a video game and fomo
This is a video game.
Go to your local college find the coach ask for a tryout and show him your record in the show and let him watch your approach during a BP session in the show......
Kinda changes your view on this being.....baseball

Back in the day when bunt cheese was prevalent around I think 15 with Puig on the cover people that are contact swinging now would literally bunt and steal every at bat because otherwise they would strike out or get sawed off every at bat. I guess SDS figures they will retain more players this way.
OP is right though. I’m on an 8-0 run currently and one of my games I got up like 6-0 and my opponent was bunt dancing and contact swing fouling anything I could possibly throw. After like ten fouls it gave him one of those hanging slider pitch animations for a no doubt bomb. I mean I’m still destroying the guy but it made me feel gross for the state of the game.

He probably got his center pci on the ball

Reason number #14, why I'm glad I'm not a an experienced gamer:
I can fully appreciate how many people think about and see this game on another level I could never truly fathom...RNG...Player retention alhorythims....input PCI rewards....I get conceptually kind of what it means but I am so green, I just pick the controller up and enjoy the ride. I don't pat attention to the minutiae other than simply content. Is the content fun and does it keep me busy? Makes the whole experience far more enjoyable when you stop looking under the hood and just drive the car.

Guys come on the only opinion of the game that matters is what YFK thinks. #inserteyeroll

These are also tin foil hat theories that can't be proven and are just an excuse used by gamers to try and explain why it's the games fault for their poor proformce not not actually their own skills lacking or their opponents just being better
