Worst commentary change in sports gaming history

Agree. That being said, recency bias is real. I have muted the commentary and think I'll keep it that way. Might keep it for RTTS, but not for MLB.
-
I did get the announcers talking about the other team's pitcher, "making his major league debut", and something about what he used to do in the minors, a couple of times last night. Bear in mind that my player is currently still in Double A, and this pitcher was making his major league debut for the Hartford Yard Goats.
I'm not really all that bothered by the commentary, one way or the other, but the fact that my player's last name is no longer in the audio list really threw me off my game. I created a new guy, and I like him, but it feels so wrong not playing with the character I've had for years at this point that I'm just gonna break down and make him anyway, and just deal with him being referred to as Number 20.

Been playing this game since 989 days. I honestly didn't think it would be this bad. I miss Vasgersian and the crew so deeply right now. If they've really been "working on this new commentary for three years" and "recording hundreds of new lines" then it's not translating to the game at all. No flow. Just bits of repetitive garbage. Literally hate it. Turned it down to zero and will pray for a miracle in 2023.

I agree with the OP. Far fewer dialogue branches IMO and they don't even line up with what's happening in the game. I've gotten "he dives to try and save the perfect game" on a play right after a home run and "that's the ballgame" in the middle of a game. My last name used to be in the audio files and no longer is, so in RTTS I'm just called by my number.
A week in I've already heard the same comments a hundred times, very few non-generic lines even for star players. They definitely have taken a step back.

I don’t mind the change … it’s actually refreshing.

At least the commentary is actually useful. You get stuff like "with a pitch like that the best thing he can do is try and push it to the other side. He tried to pull it and that's why he missed." With the last crew it was like "Hey Matty V, that stupid SOB missed the pitch. Next time they should throw a hot dog at him and see if he can hit that! What an idiot. Woo wee this pitchers cooking with napalm!"
Much prefer the new commentary that actually sounds more or less like an MLB broadcast.
-
The more I hear it, the more I get accustomed to it. It's sounds at least natural, which Vasgurian and the old crew really didn't. I'll say again I wish there was at least one female voice.
One other thing... last year I used Duane Kuiper's "He hits it high, he hits it far, he hits it deeeeep…that ball is out of here!!!" as my no doubt home run call. That call (and several others) are missing this year. Maybe they'll add them in later (I hope), but I really miss Kuiper's call.
-
I have had the too the wall commentary at least 3 times over the weekend on week fly balls that barely made it out of the infield.
-
Wish the had both sets of commentators. Random who you get. Would be much better.
-
I like it better this year. Just because you do not like it does not mean it's trash. I don't like lima beans and some people think they are great.
-
Wait... people actually listen to commentary in sports games?

If you think your last name not being in the audio anymore is bad, my real life last name is now flagged as "inappropriate text" when I try to create my ballplayer. Was the same way last year too and it completely ruined RTTS for me.

I actually wanted new commentary too make it fell like a different game. But they should have more regional commentators, even different ones at night, bring in they MLB tonight guys for night games. Just a thought.
-
I went in and made my guy anyway. The announcers calling him Number 20 doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would.
Did have a few more odd experiences with the commentary though. This time, it was my player they were talking about making his major league debut.... even though it was a minor league game, and his 3rd start on the hill.
Another time, in Mini-Seasons, (which does seem fixed now, from what I can tell), they questioned the wisdom of my leaving starter Fernando Valenzuela in, rather than going to the bullpen, and wondered how he'd be able to work out of this jam. Pitchers tire quickly in Mini Seasons, and I did have some arms in the bullpen, but this jam they were talking about... was a 1-2 count on the leadoff batter in the second inning. Didn't feel like that big of a deal to me.
-
I've seen them getting the scores mixed up. I'm up 3-0 and they say i'm down 3-0. Also have heard too many times that I'm at the 9th or 10th pitch of the at bat with a 1-1 count. Definitely some bugs they need to fix with this

You might want to file a support ticket on that and specifically tell them the problem. Maybe they'll change it.

I had them say a perfect game had been broken up two batters after I hit a home run.

This is great. Try NHL 22 and listen to those guys scream the whole time. Sounds like a bunch of carnies trying to guess your weight

The weirdest one for me was playing a game at Camden Yards and they were talking about a homerun going over the iconic ‘Green Monster’, and how much they loved Fenway.
