Don’t forget to fortify your strongholds after you capture them, sucks to have to defend them with extra games.
-
I don’t think it’s a waste of time because I’m playing the game lol. It’s just as much of a waste of time in any mode really.
-
Thanks all.
Just two more questions:
To anyone that completed, or anyone that wants to answer:
Do you try to get the strongholds out of the way before you fill in/attack territories of strongholds that you already beat?
Like if you go after Seattle but they have about 10 territories left after you take the stronghold; do you sim those, to get extra guys, or just head straight to the next stronghold in a line that's fast as possible? Then sim after you captured all 30 strongholds?
I keep reading about walls. And reinforcing strongholds that you already captured.
Naturally if you captured a stronghold and you already have a majority of the hexagons around them; you don't need to keep guys there.
But say I capture Colorado; before I head West, how many should I keep in that stronghold or should I put 2-3 fans in each hexagon around the eastern part of Colorado?

I take the strongholds as I come to them, as long as I have enough fans to play at my preferred difficulty. I try to plan out my path so that situation happens and so I don't blockade myself in or leave myself at risk.
Just a few other things about the way I play.
- I always encircle my strongholds with one or two hexes if possible.
- I take Colorado first but not on turn 1. I may steal from them on turn 1 or 2.
- I head West first. There is just too much uncontested territory out that way.
- I keep an eye on the Twins when they are encroaching on my stronghold I reinforce there next round to hold them off.
- I never leave more than a single fan in a stronghold. If I have the surrounded by my own hexes then they do not need more

This should never be an issue if you're reinforcing smartly.

People object to how much time the tile game occupies and how it gets in the way of playing actual baseball. That's fair, and it's why this map per se is so ugh. But once you break through the first phase, it's really easy to crush your enemies and hear the lamentation of the women.

1, 3, and 4 are key. I build a wall close to home to keep the Twins, Cubs, etc., at bay but take out the Rockies immediately and then head west.
I swallow territory first. I don't play a single game (other than Colo) until the entire map west of my starting point is mine. Then I crush the west coast while still marching like Sherman to the east coast (should have enough reinforcements to do both with moving fans too).
-
I'll be honest I don't even care about reinforcing my stuff. When I finished it I only lost one stronghold from all the ones I took. I basically just put all my reinforcements on one territory and take as much land as possible every turn. I also only play games on veteran as changing difficulties throughout messes with my timing.

I start by building a buffer around my home base before I go after Colorado but yes, I will usually put a buffer around Colorado as well. Arizona seems to close in from the south and others from the west.

I have no desire to do this just so I can get a 88 Piazza. Maybe if it were a better card.

Ok. So just go clockwise/counter clockwise around your home base for 2 rounds and then go after Colorado and do the same. Thanks!

You get the diamond jersey for each team which sell for 1000 stubs. Plus the prospect packs from each division. Then all the hidden packs. Worth it imo.

I always go right at KC, beat them, then get down to the Rangers on my first turn. Steal from the Rangers (vet usually), then beat Rangers on AS and get to Houston on the 2nd turn. Steal from Houston (vet usually) and then beat them on AS. Then, I start working up towards Colorado and take as many territories as I can. I get to Colorado and have enough to beat them on Vet, then from there, just go straight to Seattle and work my way down. Once all of the west and middle of the map is conquered, I start at Minnesota and work right & top and at the same time go after St Louis and down to Miami. Work all straight to the strongholds and take them all, then sim the rest. I finished the first go through last night and I had like 40-60 territories to sim and I did it in 5 minutes. This simming speed has been freaking amazing.

Oh I always forget about the hidden stuff.

This probably isn’t conquest map related , but the hitting has changed since the update on Sunday morning. It is not harder, but getting tons and tons of lazy fly balls. Particularly with my higher end diamonds. Only the batter is my #3 hole seems to hit consistently. Whomever it is. Every game is 1-0 or 2-1 now since the update. Very weird and very noticeable.

I’m not sure if it’s the game or the PS5 console, but I am also loving the quickness to sim games when taking over hexagons, seems like it less than 3 seconds as opposed to 10+ seconds for each in the past
it is suppose to be that fast for all consoles they mentioned it the last stream. The Mystery Map this year gives you 5 packs instead of 3 and it is easier this year IMO I did that map 3 times, I have finished all the maps quicker this year than any of the other years started playing DD fully in 2017.

You don't need to reinforce them. You only have to defend if that hex is completely surrounded by one team(most likely minnesota with your starting stronghold). Just make sure that doesn't happen and you are good

I messed around wit different ways to complete this map last year .I found the best way is to take out COL first turn on AS then AZ, SD, LAD, SF, OAK, Sea, While doing that making a wall up to Min and down to Hou. I start that after I take out AZ. Keeping one less fan where the CPU has fans along my wall. The least amount of turns I did this in last year was 26. I did it in 32 turns over the weekend that was without stealing fans and only playing 2 or 3 games on AS. The rest were VET or R. I also build a wall going up toward Sea from AZ and COL

FWIW, all the comments in this thread are a big help for me after getting swamped on this map pretty quick over the weekend. I also appreciate the generally positive tone in the whole thread. I'm new to this game and only started playing 21 in September when I saw it was free with Game Pass. Last few weeks I've been lurking on here, excited to play a full year of the game but so many threads are just awful negativity.
