Neat idea, but what card could they possibly use as the reward to make the effort even remotely worth it?
99 jhonathan diaz
Fair play.

Why was there no Extreme this year?
I assume sds looked at the amount of people who actually had Gherig last year and decided against it. Extreme appeals to a very small player base.

Maybe it should be a Mario Mendoza. See how much we really enjoy just playing the game for fun.

I would be excited for extreme.

Why not have Extreme early in the year and have the reward be 250k stubs or some large amount? It won't block players who can't beat extreme from getting a player, it'll be incentive for everyone to try it. And since only a small percentage finishes, it won't flood the market with stubs (that's not a concern apparently anyway).
I'm not saying this is a perfect fix, but it acts like Showdown where you get a ton of XP or vouchers for a program. I feel like it would fill the craving of great players to beat extreme and still reward them. It would only be effective if released early on. Obviously, stubs aren't really valuable right now. But imagine getting 250k or whatever in May. It's a nice little bump.
Some people will say they can get the 250k from flipping (I'm one of those) but I still think it would attract players. I'm only using an arbitrary number here. Depending on how hard it is, make it even more.

I think the biggest thing about not releasing it too early is that it would become nearly impossible. There needs to be some high-level cards in order for most people to have a chance at completing the program. It is very difficult with a team full of end-game cards, but not having those cards will severely limit who would be able to complete the program.

Oh gotcha, that does make sense. I thought Extreme was made up of moments so you could use whomever the moment was for but if it requires you to use your team, then yeah, having roster of bronzes, Silvers and Golds would make it pretty challenging, more so than it already is haha.

Extreme was three parts. Moments, Showdown, and Conquest. Moments part would not be affected by an early release, but the showdown and conquest would be affected. Showdown wouldn't be "extreme" with the cards that come out early in the game. Conquest extreme missions would be more difficult for most people and possibly even impossible for those who start out with teams comprised of mostly silver or gold players (which is usually the case for probably 90% in the first month of the game).

Why was there no Extreme this year?
Because SDS moved their content model to accessibility for all and away from “exclusive/limited” awards. This move was likely driven in part by data (what % of customers completed extreme/went 12-0/etc) and in part by their desire to have the best “free”content in all sports gaming.
I get that a lot of people didn't complete Extreme. I was one of them and I am a Yanks fan that really wanted that Gehrig card. But I still enjoyed the challenge of trying the mode even if I couldn't get the final card (I finished the moments and conquest and probably could have finished the showdown if I did it enough times - I just kept losing in the final one and gave up after a while).
I think the move to allow anyone to get any card was a good overall strategy, but as the year went on, I felt like I enjoyed RS very little. Because it was just win based like Events, you had pretty much identical pitching rotations throughout RS so it just got tiring after a while. This year, I think I only completed a RS 30 win season twice (Trout and Gehrig I rushed to get). Barely played RS besides for that - games are too long, hard to find the time for, and just felt so monotonous. And I really only got all the cards for maybe 2-3 events until these more recent ones that are the only things going on in the game. This is the first year I got every single card in the game, but I ended up buying most of the RS cards like last year and even more of the event cards than last year because the rewards weren't really that good.
BR was a great move though because no matter what all the teams are mixed up by the draft so every game felt fresh and fun and I finished like 5-6 of those programs. Extreme feels like it would still fit into the theme of everyone technically can get the cards, but the challenge was part of the reward. Plus, if they added it now, it would only be people who really enjoy the game playing anyways. And I would imagine they would make the money they spent creating it back with all the free advertising from content creators that finally have some fun gameplay to do.

I really hope they bring back the Extreme Program and the All-Time Team Program in '22!

I do too. I think any increases in offline programs and modes would be a big improvement in DD. I enjoy playing online, and the changes they made to online rewards this year felt like a good step (especially in BR - I played BR a ton more this year than ever before). But I would enjoy more offline grinding and game modes. Those 2 programs seem like good ones too bring back from 20.

They aren’t going to bring back extreme with exclusive card rewards (it doesn’t fit their model anymore). Would everyone be ok with extreme where the rewards are a banner, icon, and say $150k stubs or equivalent, or is what you really want the exclusive cards?
As for modes, they are adding mini-seasons in 22 as a new mode and content in 21 was by far the best ever in show history so they don’t need to improve much.
