Extreme Program

Would anyone else be really excited if they dropped Extreme, even at this late stage of the cycle? I do think they could give pretty fun rewards with Jones, JRam, Judge, Mullins, Buxton, maybe a really juiced Edgar Martinez, monthly Mondesi was super popular and loved, Kirby Puckett could be really fun, etc. But even if the rewards weren't that good, I'd enjoy something fun and really challenging to play offline until the new game comes out, especially with no prospects of baseball anywhere on the horizon and less people playing online.

Not “excited”, but I’d definitely run through it.

Probably a better word choice. I think it would be fun if they added something offline to grind with instead of just new events for the next 2 months. RBI 2 would work I guess, but Extreme would be a lot more entertaining and diverting.

I’d absolutely love it.

I would be excited. But it isnt gonna happen. So I just log on and knock out the conquest maps as they drop.

would be fun, tho last year the reward was lou gehrig and very much worth it imo, also the pearson and yeli cards. that being said I still think his mission of hit 3 home runs in a game on HOF or legend was my least favorite time on the show
-
Neat idea, but what card could they possibly use as the reward to make the effort even remotely worth it?

99 jhonathan diaz

Maybe it should be a Mario Mendoza. See how much we really enjoy just playing the game for fun.

I listed some ideas above. I don't think there is a Lou Gehrig left, but Andruw Jones, JRam, Judge, Mullins, Buxton, Edgar Martinez, that cracked Mondesi card, Kirby Puckett, etc. all could have juiced cards as exciting or more than Peterson and Yelich from last year. Don't really know if I can come up with many pitchers (there are some legends like Guidry that normally get 99s but no one that is crazy exciting - they could give us a really juiced Jack Leiter or Casey Mize and I bet those cards would be fun). Either way, I'm less invested in the cards since we would only use them for another 2 months (it'd be great to get fun cards compared to what they are giving us in events now though). I think I am more interested in the prospect of having a challenging, time consuming and fun offline grind to last the next 2 months and fill the baseball craving that I feel is doomed to be unmet by any real baseball until into the summer.

I think I came up with some names that would be at least as good as Yelich and Pearson. Don't think we have a Lou Gehrig caliber inner circle guy left, but I don't really care quite as much about the cards as having something to really grind offline with no baseball in sight and not much going on with online. I agree that 3 HR mission took me forever. I think the guy pitching was a wild pitcher that threw a lot of fast sinkers so it was really hard to get several pitches to smack for homers. The Mo mission was hard too if I remember right (trying to score several runs to come back against Mo on legend). But pretty much all of them took me days and so many attempts. And the conquest took a long time to knock out. I never actually got the Showdown done, after getting to Pearson like 3-4 times and failing. Either way, I just think it would be fun to have something to work on offline and at my own time.

I could never do Gehrig's 4 XBH moment. I could only muster three. For Yelich, I could only get 2 homeruns.

Why was there no Extreme this year?
-
The first year it came out it was amazing and honestly the only good year for it. Basically end game cards the first month for an insane grind. Now it’s non existent, last year was meaningless, apparently it’s just not important because you can’t lazily implement it into every single program.

I’d absolutely do it for a Finest JRam and/or Flashback Mondesi.

That's what I'm saying! There are definitely cards left that they could do to make it worthwhile (JRam from 2017 had .300 BA both sides, 20+ steals and great power so that could be a card to do or you could do finest from this year). I'm a Vandy guy so I would love a Leiter card if they need to do a pitcher. Either way, they definitely could still find cards that would get people excited. And I think an entertaining and challenging offline grind actually felt worth it just in being some of the rare people to complete it. Doubt they will do it at this point, but I am sure there are plenty of people that would enjoy it (and the content creators would probably enjoy it too since it would be something new to mix in with their content about the new game).

Because it just goes to prove how much they've failed at content this year. People need to get over shiny new cards. It's the same boring game year over year, but this year, you get a Griffey with almost maxed stats! Next year, you'll get his Prime card that'll be underwhelming because his card in 21 was so good. But, don't worry, that new flashback Mo Vaughn will come out and everyone will make a mess in their pants, but get mad that he only has just over 110 power and low contact. Same cr@p, different year.
I bought The Show 18 after being away from baseball games for like 14 years and it was fun at first. Didn't get 19 because I didn't see the need. Bought 20 and played DD for the first time. That was fun. I was hyped to play more DD this year but quickly gave up when I realized how terrible online play was and how the game was trash when you brush away some of the dirt hiding so many flaws. I'm done for another 10 years or so until, maybe, somebody produces a baseball game that doesn't have pre-determined outcomes.
And yes, I know, MBLTS is the best available baseball game on the market. We need more competition however. SDS has gotten lazy. Watching some of Kevin's recent videos of him playing 07-10 versions just show how much this game is literally the same boring mess as it was 12-15 years ago.
-
Nope. This is my first year doing online DD, and I'm totally burnt and have no desire to grind anymore. For 22 I'll do offline stuff like TA and BR, but no more RS or Events. I'll happily live without some cards or purchase them.
Also not sure how much more you can juice the roster. So many 125/125 guys out there already it's ridiculous...

Because SDS moved their content model to accessibility for all and away from “exclusive/limited” awards. This move was likely driven in part by data (what % of customers completed extreme/went 12-0/etc) and in part by their desire to have the best “free”content in all sports gaming.

Except Extreme fit that model perfectly already. Extreme rewards where not exclusive to the best of the best online players...or guys with the most stubs. You literally just had to play. Which was their go to at the beginning of the year. "All cards can be obtained simply by playing" Sure, they were hard to do and better players could obtain them faster, but anyone could get them.
