Any Chance at Gameplay Changes in '22?

Particularly the hitting interfaces?
Zone is just a bizarre concept in general.
Directional is too easy at the lower levels, and not useable at the higher levels.
I don't know anyone who uses analog.Pinpoint makes Mitch Williams look like Greg Maddux once you master it. Completely eliminates the control attribute.
I would like to see player attributes come into play more-- just because you're a good zone hitter doesn't mean Dee Gordon should be able to pull a high outside fastball into the RF gap.
Or should we expect another repackage with Otani on the front?
If there was ever a year for change this would be it. First full cycle on next Gen and Xbox…….they have shown the willingness to change….pinpoint implement.
I think there is a chance.

Because Xbox is getting it on Game Pass again, it pretty much means it's going to be a copy/paste thing IMHO. It has made up my mind though. I will NOT pre-order again this year.
Nothing will probably change too much gameplay wise. Hopefully pinpoint is fixed though. Sadly, if there aren't improved network functions happening (i.e., freeze offs because of a ground ball to second, an abundance of server crashes when the season opens, etc.), it's just not worth buying it at all.
I was hoping it wouldn't be on Game Pass.

Pinpoint needs to be much harder to dot with. Greater margin of error. Too many perfect results on non perfect/perfect/perfect inputs.
-
102 outlier has to have a pitch count on how often it can be thrown in a game for both starters and RP's.
-
foul balls, particularly on AS, need to be decreased - maybe get rid of the outter PCI range entirely?
I feel like those 3 things would drastically improve game play for the majority of people.

I don't expect many changes in the core gameplay, just tweaks a Bearsfan mentioned, but I don't believe it has anything at all to do with it being on Game Pass. I am not even sure how you make that connection.

I think it does correlate with the fact that it is on gamepass. I bet if it was a brand new engine, or if they actually took time out to add to the gameplay, they would try to recoup their investment by not having it on gamepass. Then again, I dont know what type of royalties companies get from agreeing to it being on gamepasss.

I don't think Sony has any say about the game pass decision. MLB is listed as the publisher of the game on Xbox so it is probably their call and not Sony or SDS

SDS is turning into EA. They added perfect perfect in 20 , oh and animation’s. 21 pinpoint and more animations. Oh wait this year is focused on caps and March to October. Once again until people stop buying this game they won’t make changes. This is the first year since the game came out in 06 that I have zero interest in buying it. Funny thing is all the people who profit off this game streaming it and trashed it are the people first in line to order it.

We have gotten so little detail about any changes to 22 so far that it is way to early to say what they focused on.

1 - Make infielder fielding stats matter - everyone 80 and above scoops every single ball, makes laser throws to first on the run. Why is David Ortiz scooping 100% of the balls?
2 - MORE HIT VARIETY - We need more ground ball singles through the infield, more balls that beat the outfielder to the wall instead of being caught on the track. Have a hard hit liner go off a guys gloves once in a while. WAY too many HR's and outfielders too fast.
3 - Outlier should drift away once pitcher hits orange stamina. For ex. deGrom should only hit 102 MPH 80% of the time once he gets lower on stamina. Or require perfect input to reach 102 at certain stamina.

Can't you select the outer ring to gradually disappear during an AB? Or are you talking about implementing coding where anything outside the internal PCI, minus a few inches, is a swing and a miss?

I'm talking about getting rid of its impact entirely such that only balls that fall within the active PCI area (whatever that is for a particular hitter/ and difficulty) can create contact.

I just figured they wouldn't put it out for free again if the game were going to be better in any way this year.

I don't think Sony or SDS has any say about it being on Game Pass. If you look up the game on Game Pass the publisher is listed as MLB and not Sony so it was probably a deal between Microsoft and MLB.

I believe you are correct on the game pass thing. I know MLB plays a big part in it somewhere. They mentioned it early on last year at some point (I think it was right before the early release) where they explained it. So I see your point.

I think it’s sad that we’re all about to accept the same product we have already paid for (numerous times in some cases) as an entirely new game.
Really, SDS should offer us new seasons as DLC or something. The game has barely changed in years.

They are lazy because they have no true competition. If another company was breathing down their neck’s with a quality baseball game, it would make them work just a little bit harder.

What we thinking boys ?? Couldn’t gather this from the “gameplay” trailer LOL

The gameplay changes amount to Randy Johnson in the game. That’s it!

Pretty much this. That is the SDS game plan every year. Hype the new shiny new cards and don’t attempt to fix the serious issues.

They’ll mask the poor gameplay w shiny new content. I just hope we get a good game mode.
