Hard to argue with the picks here for cover boys. You have the most dynamic player in the game currently in Ohtani and a household icon in Jeter. Really can't understand who would be unhappy with these two choices as it is a total win-win scenario.

I'll admit some bias as I'm a big Yankees fan, but it is hard to argue with these cover choices from a financial standpoint. For people who are more about the current roster, you get the most electric player in the league right now in Ohtani who is doing things that haven't been done in a century. For people who like these games primarily for the classic content, you have a NEW legend in Derek Jeter who is arguably the most popular/well-known player in the league over the last 25 years.
I'm not sure what other legend they could have picked for the Collector's Edition that would have the same mass appeal as him. People keep bringing up his attributes which I'm sure will be in line with a Jackie Robinson or Honus like someone else suggested. The thing is, SDS doesn't care how many God squads Derek Jeter makes. The main thing they care about is how many people will buy their game and Jeter is going to sell copies.
As a red sox fan i agree with this. I thought maybe Papi because of being the only hall of famer, but he's in the game so introducing a new player the caliber of jeter is perfect. Regardless people will still complain.

Happy for the fans who wanted Jeter, I'll be getting digital so I got not dog in the fight as they say. I only get the deluxe for the early release, I sell my cards and live in franchise & RTTS.

At the very least Jeter, if given secondary positions, which I think he will, will be an end game second basemen for a lot of people.

I don't know why they would give him any secondaries. He never played anywhere except shortstop. He'll be a good card at the beginning of the year and then be overshadowed as the better shortstops are released. Probably be similar to Jackie this year, still usable as the game cycle goes on but nowhere near the best option.

Outside of Bonds or Randy Johnson, I dont know what legend they could announce that would generate more buzz than Jeter. They will boost his cards to whatever attributes they want anyway.

Yay, I can finally stop saying, it's my first year. Freshman blues are over.
Well this year the gave out 2 42 Series packs, 5 LS Gold Choice Packs, 25K in stubs, a Diamond Equipment pack, 20 The Show packs, plus you got Early Access which allowed you to play the game 3 days prior to the original release date.
Yes 3 days early accesses with a lot of system crashes. I remember the early threads and how hard it was for the servers. Sure we get the occasional problem but it's nothing close to what early accesses was like. Don't think I'll be pre ordering this year.

I find it unlikely Jeter will even be in the game. If he is, he will not be an end game card until his highest cards is released around October. Also, Early Access is basically just beta and for them to fix servers. I got burned last year. I am waiting until the game is released this year.

You're right, though I'd add a few names to that list:
A-Rod (gross)
Clemens
Dimaggio
Cobb
Koufax
Canseco 40/40I think Koufax may be the only one from that list who moves the needle for a reveal. Rodriguez and Clemens are universally disliked. We've already had Cobb so it wouldnt be a big reveal. As great as Joe was, his card would underperform on this game. Canseco was as big a star as there was, but his apex was pretty short. His card would be decent, but people would ultimately complain about his terrible defense.
