I don't understand why there's all this buzz about Kirby Puckett? I'm obviously not a Twins fan (obligatory division rival hatred), so what's all the fuss about?
He's the only new legend for this year not to have his best card yet. That's the only reason.
He may not get one this year. Olerud didn't last year.

I can assure you that no Angels fans have anything but antipathy towards Pujols. He even once said something along the lines of "it was nice to play in St. Louis again (following an interleague game) since they have real baseball fans here, unlike Anaheim."
Living in orange county, I agree with his statement 100%

@ericulous1_psn said in Final 10th inning bosses:
Angels fans can hate on Pujols all they want, I don't entirely blame them. He had 11 dominant years in St Louis (find me a more dominate 11 year stretch by any hitter ever, other than Bonds). Only player ever to amass .300+ average, 30+ Home Runs and 100+ RBIs in 10 straight seasons.
But, his Angels run was nowhere near worth the money they paid him. And if he really said that, I would have beef too. But this Fraud talk? My buddy met Albert and his wife at the zoo this past year, he was taking his kid and a large group of autistic children on a tour. My friend works with a young man with autism and they happened to be at the zoo. Albert not only signed autographs, he invited them to join their tour and spent the whole day together. So when it comes to being a quality human. Albert is no Fraud. He is and always will be the man.
That’s great. Love this.

the Fraud talk is because he lied about his age. That's why.

I think whoever wrote that scene (the whole scenario) must have been an Angels fan. I mean, movies are made in Hollywood. The Angels play a short 8 hour drive away, which in California terms, means like 15 miles.
They knew what they were doing with that. The young player being specifically from the Dominican Republic gives it away.
Am I to take it as a coincidence that "Carlos" is wearing a red wife-beater in that scene? Red like the Cardinals, and the Angels?

If he did, everyone was aware. According to some executives it was wide spread knowledge not that he lied, but many people from Latin countries don't have accurate birt records. The Angels knew what they were getting.. The Angels paid for Pujols so he would hit his 500th and 600th HR, and 3,000th hit as as Angels player. To sell Pujols jerseys etc. He did all that. I don't feel sorry for these teams who over pay players. And if Albert really did lie about his age and he's actually 44 or 45, and he can still hit 15-20 bombs a year.....more power to him
Again, I get an Angels fans frustration with him (though I'd be way more annoyed with Josh Hamilton and CJ Wilson who did nothing for your team) Pujols at least gave decent run production for several years, not worth what he was paid but who really is.
Was bummed to see him leave the Cardinals, it reminded me that no matter how good a guy anyone is, this sport is still all about money. If they offered me a bag like that, I'd take it too.

Good? Pujols is as good as Bernie Madoff, that's how good he is. Took Moreno for a ride. I don't respect that.
If I want to look up to con artists, there are better than Albert Pujols.
If I want to look up to hall of fame level baseball players that have character flaws, I'd sooner choose Pete Rose or Albert Belle.

Um Benchwarmers came out in 2006, 6 years prior to Pujols moving to the Angels. And let's not get carried away, he didn't lie to play on a little league team as an adult ringer. He was FastTracked through the minors because he mashed against people his age or older.. I have no idea if any of this is true but I wouldn't be surprised, but what would he benefit telling them he was 19 and not 21. It's not like he was 37 pretending to be 28. But keep on cracking jokes, one for every RBI and HR he has hit.

I think you're over thinking what type of deception was made if any. Nothing has ever been proven but regardless, who signs an aging 1st baseman to a 10 year deal and doesn't expect regression? His first 5 years were good, not great. You are of course entitled to your opinion, I've just never heard Pujols compared to the cheaters and wife beaters, a man with a truly good heart who has done so much for his community. Arte Moreno didn't get hoodwinked. He made loads of money off Pujols accomplishments and philanthropy.

I don't hate Pujols. I hold him in ill-regard and have no respect for him, but I don't hate him. There are people that he defrauded that have every reason to hate him though. People like CJ Cron, Mark Trumbo, Phil Gosselin, Jared Walsh, and Arte Moreno.
I'm none of those people, so I just don't respect him at all and consider him to be a bad person.
Save your talk of philanthropy. Pujols' "philanthropy" is always at the behest of his CPA as a way to optimize his tax deductions. Some philanthropy. About as philanthropic as the guy that gives his old basketball jersey to the Goodwill so he can get a receipt and claim he donated 5K worth of things to charity that fiscal year, with the receipt to prove it.

That is an incredibly cynical world view. I guess there's no point in arguing. To each his own.

Hahaha, fair enough. I just meant, if you truly think Pujols is the type of person who only cares about tax write offs and lies to swindle money from a billionaire, I'm not really sure where that comes from, but you might as well apply it to anyone with loads of money who donates and signs a contract much better than their abilities.
Pujols' organization for autism has done some incredible work for so many kids and he's at the head of the spear. He married a woman whose child has autism and raised her when he didn't have a dime to his name and then started his foundation I'm her honor to help kids like her. His work down in the Dominican is has been truly life saving to many people in need and again, he's at the front lines. Pujols' contract for the Angels was a bad business decision but they paid him not because of his alleged age of 31 at the time which nobody in baseball should get a 10 year contract much less when they are 31 and in decline. He was paid because he was the biggest star in the game at the time and he had many accomplishments ahead which the Angels more than capitalized on with their Pujols merchandise, the massive TV deal they signed the year Pujols came to town.
Anyway. Agree to disagree I guess. I'm a Cardinals fan and was super bitter that he chose a bigger bag of money and left us, but, I still think he's a good person.

nah it's like this. If you lie, cheat, and defraud your way into the MLB by claiming you're a young 19 year youth baseball player from the Dominican Republic, only for it to come out years later that you were 26, that's fraud. You can say he hit well so the fraud didn't hurt the Cardinals.
You can't say the fraud didn't hurt the Angels. We thought we were getting a player a bit younger than the age he claimed he was, and we're talking about a 10 years length contract. 6 years of age makes a difference.
He proceeded to prove, by his play, that he was indeed 8 years older than anyone ever knew. Arte was pissed. He cut him after telling him he would never cut him, and I'll be amazed if the "personal services contract" that Pujols owes Arte will be mentioned again. Anywhere. It will just disappear.

If you seen him play, than you get it. I’m not a Twins fan, (don’t dislike them, just not a team I follow), but he played the game better than many. Unfortunately, some of what makes a great player doesn’t consist of breaking home run records or translate into a good DD card.
