If it's on par with what we got from MVP 2004, I'll make the switch.
hell no MVP 2004 with the worse glitch of all time left hand batters could not hit homeruns

With all their premier titles I don’t know if they’ll allocate the right resources to make a serious attempt. If it doesn’t produce the projected revenue or meet some form of basic market share it’ll be scraped.
If they are taking 4 years to develop it, then that to me says they are very serious & putting in the right resources to make it RIGHT. The opposite could be said if they rushed & threw out a game immediately upon deciding to re-enter Baseball again.

They have the same business model from NHL to Madden to FIFA. I don’t know why they’d make it any different
Genre's which they have a Monopoly all on & is why they have the power to make it "pay-to-win". But 2K has the Monopoly on Basketball & SDS has the Monopoly with baseball. Therefor EA MVP 2024 surely will NOT be "pay-to-win" because that will have them fail before they even begin.
Or they know people like you will buy it regardless, and will continue using the same business model that’s made them billions of dollars.

EA MVP Baseball 2005 as the BEST baseball game ever released up until 2005. The game play was awesome & they were the 1st to do a Stadium Creator which SDS couldn't do until 2021. Only thing that was bad with EA MVP 2005 was the graphics if you compare to how software has advanced thru the years to what it is now today. As well with EA knowing the are entering Baseball again without having a Monopoly on it like SDS has had for the last several years. I am pretty sure they will NOT make it "pay-to-win" because at the end of the day they need to poach MLBTS players if they are to be successful at all.
Let me know how well that game played online. It's basically impossible to compare games from that era to modern games due to networking and server complications.
-
While MVP was pretty good in 2004 or so, I do not expect anything from EA other than annoying pay-to-win microtransactions and a horrible online gameplay environment. They have definately regressed over the past decade or so....Horrible customer service, bug infested software, and a library of full of trash games.
-
EA now is NOT EA from 2005.
Zero confidence.
-
While it’s good that there could be some real competition, slow your role a little bit as we don’t know anything about EA’s baseball game will be like. It very well could end like all of their other sports’ games which I wouldn’t play even if I got the games for free.
-
Even if EA stains the sheets with it, it's still good for competition and will force devs to reevaluate their stance and attempt to make improvements. There will be those that will defect to EA's new game because it'll be shiny and new. That means less revenue for SDS and if they want it back, they'll have to compete to get it back. IF, big, gigantic, enormous if, EA's game is magically 'good', even more effort to improve this copy/paste from the last 4 or 5 years. Either way, it's a long way off and might not even come to fruition. At the same time, MLBTS needs a kick in the pants to improve the experience. Maybe this is it; maybe it isn't. I play RBI, Super Mega and The Show. I like baseball more than I like the developers.

That is EXACTLY what I said in very few words within my OP. SDS has 4 years to do this to secure their customer base & not lose too many over to EA in 2024.
And for the record. I do NOT Hate MLBTS. There are just way more things within & about MLBTS that I do NOT like or enjoy then the things within & about that I do enjoy. Just from what I remember with when I played with MVP 2005, it was exactly the opposite with having more things I like about & within it in contrast to what I didn't like.

Hellllllll no unless this franchise goes to the crapper. EA is notoriously for bad gameplay AND being crooks
Agreed, a little competition doesn't hurt but SDS will be fine IMO.

Just finished seeing a video on YouTube & OMG, OMG & OMG!!! Oh, did I forget to say OMFG?
But just heard & seen the news I have been hoping & praying for so many years now.
SDS, Your days are numbered. Start the count down because if you guys (the developers) does NOT improve this game to what most in here are wanting it to be. Then you will lose half & maybe even more then half of your customer base. You have 4 years to do this, because .......
EA is relaunching MVP Baseball in 2024.
For all you in here reading this. go see the video for yourselves.EA.... no thanks. Imagine how bad there version of DD will be

Even if EA releases a baseball game in 2024, they still need to secure the league and players rights.
Right now that is SDS who has those rights.
Doubtful MLB and the MLBPA allow two seperate companies to obtain those rights.
(Just like how Topps is losing the rights for their sports cards to Fanatics)
So that leaves two options:
-
EA out bids SDS and gets the rights therefore being the ONLY company allowed to produce a licensed product. Not only does that give EA to much power into making the game pay to play; but it also keeps SDS from making a licensed game. Thus you still have a company that has a monopoly on an MLB game.
-
EA doesn't get the player rights and still goes through making the game. But it's all generic players and teams. Where the only way to make real MLB teams and players is by editing the rosters. I don't care what you say about SDS, die hard MLB fans won't play a game that isn't licensed.
So, you're going to end up with a company, that has a proven track record of making their games 'pay to play' driving a company that doesn't have that business model out of business or a second game that is non licensed.
Either way, I still see SDS standing tall in 2024

From my understanding. SDS does NOT have EXCLUSIVE Rights with MLB. They purchased the License for X-amount of years. Any other Game Label can also purchase the License as well as long as MLB feels they are credible enough.. However NO ONE else has been willing or wanting to pay that huge cost to get them MLB Licensing & risk their game NOT being able to turn a profit upon being released. This is how & why SDS has been the ONLY MLB Baseball Sim Game for the last several years.
As well the MLB Licensing includes & covers ALL active players. It's with the retired players EA will now need to seek out individually & get the Rights from them to use their name & likeness within the game. Also with which cards. Surely it will NOT be Topps because Topps is under Contract with MLBTS. However EA can easily strike a deal with Fleer, Upper Deck or Donruss to use their cards for retired players.

Doesn't whatever company makes RBI Baseball also have player rights? I've never played it, but the latest version has Tim Anderson on the cover so I would assume that they're allowed to use all the other current players as well.
-
Yeah I think once this game from EA drops and we play it we will realize how good SDS has made the game. But thats just me.

RBI Baseball is MLB Licensed. But that s purely an ARCADE style play video game. EXTREMELY LIMITED with it's modes & game play. MLBTS, EA MVP & 2K Baseball are each Simulators & way more advanced with more features & capabilities. Very Very BIG DIFFERENCE with what RBI Baseball is.
-
This shouldn't be about whether one moves on from SDS or not but rather the fact the competition should force SDS into better gameplay.
The EA product doesn't even need to be good to force SDS's hand.
Competition is exactly what's missing from other sports games and I welcome EA's entry back into this space. Now... where are those competitors for madden and nhl? Lol
-
EA... Where sports games go to die.
