Players That Swing At EVERYTHING and MASH!?!?
-
OK, so I feel I have been seeing this more and more... a LOT in this event. I am facing more and more guys who swing at everything...I mean everything. I will feed them sliders and changeups in the dirt and they will flail at everything...then out of nowhere they just blast something out of the yard. I also will see it with fastballs way out of the zone. I may throw seven change ups/sliders buried in the dirt and then just decide to mix it up with a fastball that would probably go over the backstop...yet, it gets squared out and flies out of the yard.
It is just so strange because they aren't hitting anything and then they hit a pitch out that I didn't even think they could make contact on. A lot of the time they have WS or Championship banners. What am I missing here? How can anyone be effective swinging at everything...especially when nothing is being thrown in the zone?

First off that is why All-Star sucks and second I think a lot of people have adopted that approach given the pinpoint pitching dotting corners and foul tips on horrible timing/pci placement swings. If they just swing at everything that is a competitive pitch that even looks decent and only lay off when they clearly see it is a non competitive ball they will ultimately end up squaring up quite a few balls that are in or near the strike zone. The strategy will also prevent taking strike three on those PPP dots where the last quarter of the ball grazes the strike zone.
I absolutely hate the foul tips on this game awarding horrible swings.
The gameplay you are referencing basically has replaced the check swings from previous years for some guys….

It's painful in BR trying to get a Strikeout sometimes. I swear I could bounce the ball to the plate and they will find a way to make weak contact to an infielder. I get that using silver and bronze pitchers makes the pci bigger with their stats but sometimes it's just down right ridiculous

A grounder to an infielder would be great…seems like sometimes the outer pci isn’t even touching the ball and they are able to foul tip until they square something up hard.

My favorite and it seems to be happening with m Degrom the most. I will throw a perfect changeup as far down as I can go. Somehow it still ends up in the strikezone and then over the fence... His control is good and yet I see this happening more and more and I get scared to throw the changeup

Thanks...I kind of thought you would say that. This is my first year and this season of Ranked is the first time I have played games past 700. Every other season I have stopped when I hit HOF. The difference between HOF and All Star in regards to foul balls has been mind blowing.

Degrom seems to have way worse control with the change...four seam and slider you can dot, but the changeup can drift over the plate even if you try to bury it as much as possible.

For real though, I hit 100 points last night for the season and for the first time didn’t get either of the pitcher stats complete to aid that effort

I swing at everything because I suck and I have terrible plate discipline, but all I get out of it is a bunch of strikeouts. lol

You mean the foul off/home run where your pitch is in the dirt and the feedback shows their PCI is at the top of the zone with the outer PCI above the belt? That's them most realistic aspect of the game <sarcasm>

There are days I’m this player you speak of. I know it sucks to face me. I’m a random swinger. I’ll be late on 102 and then turn on it. I’ll look like an idiot a few swings and then hit a PP

There are players like you and there are players that do it strategically to take advantage of the game engine. For instance if you have Leiter on the mound they will swing at every single cutter inside banking on foul balls or to square up the ball even when it is out of the zone. Also to eliminate the need to determine if the pitch is a strike.
Like I was saying in my original post it isn’t a horrible strategy given the state of the game. Probably more effective than taking PPP pitches on the black after two cutters off the plate trying to play real baseball.

Yea they need to let people strike out and have bad swings be outs.

I agree with @CodyWolfgang_XBL ...I don't think you are who I am talking about. These are actually pretty good players...have definitely seen multiple with Championship banners and I think there was one WS guy. It really is like it is a strategy being on All Star. They are not random swingers...they are "I know you are going to bury this and I am going to swing out of my shoes." It really can be an easy adjustment to pitch to them, but sometimes you don't realize they are doing it intentionally until it is too late. They really look a lot like a kid with zero plate discipline.

Especially in BR with garbage stamina that inevitably ends up with a meat ball or me saying screw it and beaning them

I'm not amazing but I'm like 54-9 in RS...so I actually might be that guy. However it's not planned I'm just guessing and all over the place.

My specialty is telling myself to look for the inside sinker and swinging at it late and popping it up to 1B.

I suck at hitting and I can mashing Events. They just jack up the hitter sliders...
-
With Events and BR - they are trying to drain your pitcher. They are banking you have played a couple games already and your best RP are drained from the previous games. They will sit and foul off all the balls trying to get pitch count to 20-25 (about where energy is out for SP). You will see it more if you bring in higher rated pitchers (high H/9 K/9, HR/9). They are literally using game mechanics to make you change your pitcher out.
