Tom Glavine - Mets Legend

So just perusing through my inventory of non-live series, going team to team, I get to the Mets and see the 96 MS Glavine in the Mets inventory, with Mets uniform and everything. As a Braves fan, this saddened me. Show me the doll and I'll show you where it hurt the most.
For nostalgia, who remembers the year where your pitcher had a totally different repertoire of pitches but you didn't know what they would be until you got in game? Good times.
-
At least you guys got the last laugh when he blew up in his last start for the Mets and blew our season. It definitely sucks seeing a legend known for being on your team in the game for another team tho.
-
Meh.. understand what the card is: he won his 300th.
As a Met fan who was there in Wrigley, it was special to see.
The card is cool. His better days were with the braves.
-
I imagine Indians fans feel the same way about Lofton's card.
That's the downside of some of these Milestone cards. If they give Gary Sheffield a Milestone card, prepared to be disappointed by another, "Wait, he was a Met?"
-
Yea always sucks. I remember when Madden first got Steve McNair’s rights in mut after 6 years and they first dropped his legend card as a Raven. It made me so mad I couldn’t believe it.
-
That one isn't even close to the worst offender. We see Kenny Lofton on the White Sox, a team he spend 93 games with.
-
I personally don’t care at all. Just happy the player is in the game. That’s what’s great about DD is you can bring them back. It’s like Arenado never even left 🥺

What I love about Glavine is he signed with the Mets because he didn't want to make more money on a "rebuilding" team-- The Phillies.
Fast forward to Sept. of '07, and the Phillies chase down the Mets (7 down with 17 to go) and are tied for the lead on the last day.
Glavine gets destroyed by a very weak Marlins team, giving up 7 earned in the 1st two innings on the final day.
In Philly, Jamie Moyer shuts down the Nats and the Phils win the division!
So I love seeing 'ole Tommy in his choke artist uniform.
Brings back great memories... -

That was just the icing on the cake for an already epic late season collapse. It definitely added insult to injury however. Pretty sure Glavine rejoined the Braves in 08 to retire as a Brave.

What about the opposite?
Imagine if they dropped a Kirk Gibson card. There is close to two generations of Dodger fans that would look at a Gibson Prime card and lose their chili that it isn’t with the Dodgers.
I think most Dodger fans think that Gibson just arrived with broken knees off the street and then sailed off into the sunset after he hit his homer.

I liked when The Master Sheff was on my Mets.

it is when the milestone was achieved which is why some of those cards will drive me crazy by year end. Because let's remember Steve Finley is a giant in this game when I'm going to be honest I had no clue he even played there.

I’m drawing a blank on Sheffield as a Met, honestly, but I do remember him as a Brewers rookie SS facing the Jays in the late 80’s (didn’t become a Brew fan until after the Expos left)

@yankblan he only played one year with the Mets in 2009 but he did hit his 500th HR with them which would probably be the Milestone
That was cool, and I think in a Black Met jersey, if I recall.
I warmed up to Glavine after awhile as a Met. Actually met him in 2000. He was carrying golf clubs and offered his autograph after the game. I knew there was no way I'd see him later, but I always remembered that. It was a Braves/Mets series at Shea. -

As a Met fan, it made me more upset, especially when I think about his last start of 2007. I know the rights issues are tricky but either make it a Glavine card in a Braves uni or make it a different Met.
