A few years ago, SDS explained the process they have to go through to have a player added. It’s not as simple as them just adding the player to the roster. MLB and MLBPA need to approve and that can take up to a week or two depending on timing. If I remember correctly, they submit and if they don’t get an approval by Wednesday, the player won’t make the Friday update, so then will need to wait till the next roster update.

Wasn't it Jordan Hicks or some other Cardinal that was pitching in the majors for like 2 months before being added a few years back?

Yes, thank you, I knew it was in response to a specific player but I couldn’t remember the player. I believe there was an issue with his contract, sort of similar to Bumgarner and Topps.

Players have to be in the MLBPA and also have to do (basically) a consent form type of thing to allow their likeness into the game. Similarly to Jordan Hicks as pointed out above. SDS couldn't put him into the game because he didn't file the paperwork needed to be in the game. I'd assume Akiyama hasn't turned in his homework.

I don’t think he’ll be in the game this year. Same reason AJ Puk is not in the game after pitching in the majors in two stints. The players have to sign paperwork to release their likeness in game. Some players simply don’t sign it

He wasn't in it last year, and there was the post saying he got scanned and see you soon. Still not added over a year later. Why would they post something saying he was scanned if there was still paperwork needing done? Why would you waste the time to scan someone and post about it if they didn't sign what was needed, a year and a half ago? And he's still not added
