Hitting with directional

I like zone more now that I learned I need to make sure I get the circle were I want before the button push. I kept push the stick and button together so the circle was registered lagging behind were I wanted it.

Well I don't know about this years RTTS now that they changed everything. But I only use the directional for the same issue. Currently I'm only playing pitcher on 2021 to unlock perks so when I play as a hitter I can juice him up to start with. But let me try and help you with tips.
- I use Strike Zone 2 for my view. I believe it helps me with recognizing pitches inside or outside.
- Use guess pitch and quadrant.
- If the pitcher shakes his head yes or no guess high quadrant fastball up in the zone. Otherwise just guess fastball low quadrant. This will help you look for a pitch in a specific zone to drive.
- I use more of a power profile so I always aim the directional up.
- Unlock equipment focusing on Con, POW, PVIS, and DISC. You should be able to buy the Gold equipment pretty cheap. Then you can save for diamond.
I use these strategies on The Show 2020 along with specific character perks. On legendary I was able to hit over .400 with 100 hrs and 200 rbis (not every year). I know RTTS took away the character perks so I know that will hurt some of my tips. Swinging with normal is fine. I only use that or contact (to increase contact rate).
Hope this helps.

I was using strike zone 2 for a while then though it too close so I moved to strike zone which I like a bit more. I do use guess pitch with quadrant but I mainly for high fastball but maybe I'll try what you said instead. I have silver slugging sparkplug as my main perk with gold power 7 and gold contact 7 as the two others. Slowly building my way to the gold center one. About half way there.

Since I’m new to game I used the default Fisheye which I’m used to now. I tried Strike Zone and it made me feel weird not being able to see my player.

All I've done so far is do what Lonne recommended with the guess pitch. I have had a few games where I got a few hits and drove in some runs. My last game I had a 2 HR/5RBI game. Hitting .195 after that game. Finish that and get called up to the bigs.

Guess I should breakdown my approach more.
I hunt the fastball if it's the primary or 1st secondary pitch in the lower quadrant.
I hunt the Sinker/Splitter if it's the primary pitch in the lower quadrant.Pitcher shakes their head trumps all. That's when you look for the fastball in the upper quadrant.
Seems like you had some success hitting two homers in a game. Congrats.

I got pitching tips as well. Really that is a lot easier.

I guess I just hit a hot streak there. This game is ridiculous. I was as high as .232 on the season, now mid July and I'm hitting an awesome .187. I don't understand it at all. I just can't get hits frequently. I have 34 hits, four doubles, one triple and 5 homers. I don't strike out a ton but probably more than I should be. 52 times in 182 ABs. I'm working on cutting that down but I walk a fair amount as well, 23 so far. I just don't know what to do about getting more hits. I'm 1 for my last 31 at bats. I have the ratings that should make me a decent hitter. The game is preventing me from doing that. I get "good" timing a ton and most of the time it's right to someone or a popup or whatever else. Driving me insane. Also stopped switch hitting, staying to righty only. I don't want to lower difficulty but I may have to or just say screw it and say it's the game.

So I am forced to use directional
Ever try Pure Analog Hitting?
You might like it. -
I used directional for years, but switched to analog without stride in February. I hit MUCH better with analog and flick. I think timing is easier that way. You might give it a try in practice. It takes a little getting used to but I think stick reacts quicker than buttons.

Do you play RS with pure analog? If so, how well do you do?

I don’t play online (other than the tech test.)
I was addressing the RTTS question, but also hit much better with analog vs cpu and conquest. I am sold on that method and won’t go back to directional... but it took me a couple of weeks to remember stick instead of button the first game each day.

I used analog way back when I was playing MLB2k10 or 12, not sure but which it was but I was pretty good at that. That is actually the mode I used first when I got this and I didn't like it much but I may change to it and see how it goes. Couldn't hurt. Question about it, do you still stay away from power swinging for the most part?
I have picked it up a little bit over more games. Up to .208 at the break. 9-25 two more doubles and two more homers. 5 BB and 4 Ks so that's improving.
Think I'll hold off trying analog until I see if I hit a wall again.

All I can say is keep hunting that fastball and get those perks to improve CON, PWR, PVIS.
Does seem the game is harder to hit this year with directional.
-
I'm definitely trying to. Are you trying to pull and hit it in the air (up and left if you're hitting righty)? Maybe I'm not doing that right.
-
No. Just straight up. You want to use the whole field. I get great satisfaction hitting oppo homers.
-
I give up on this game. Dropped it down to veteran and still can't hit above .200. The hitting makes no sense at all. When I'm hitting all my ratings are over 100, contact power and vision. I should be tearing it up. No, half the time I pop it up foul or ground out to the pitcher. I make a good timing swing on a pitch right down the [censored] middle and it's a pop up behind the plate. Sometimes it's even a complete whiff which makes no sense at all. And it seems like the longer you play, the worse you do. Terrible game.

I am with you clancaster. I am on the Xbox and was really looking fwd to playing a real baseball game. So far it has been fun as I play directional on beginner ( I suck and dont have all day to get better and I refuse to use PCI as being older I dont have the reflexes needed nor time to sink). Until recently I was used to getting at least 1 if not 2 hits a game (yes I was batting over 400 in the majors but again it is fun for me) however since the last update I cant buy a hit. I hit in the green good spot (I think I have hit perfect maybe twice in my entire career which spans 1 season in the minors and 1 in the majors, again I am terrible) however all of my hits are just lazy flys to the LF or even some occasional liners to the LF. I typically am aiming in the upper left direction or straight pulling and swing with the A button for normal as that has worked since day 1.
Now I am having to go more to contact and that isnt working either (don't get me started on power unless I want to hit a pop up to the catcher). Not sure why they had to tweak beginner in such a way that now I just no longer want to play. And I was hoping to progress to dynamic in my next season but now I am thinking of uninstalling. I hope they fix it

Are you first pitch swinging ?? I only ask cause my brother was having the same issue I watched him play and he was, taking the first pitch 90% of the time will prevent high pops
-
Actually yes, although many times I just foul it off and then Ill hit the second or third pitch. I think I have had a total of 1 maybe 2 balls go by in my career as I typically am hitting in the first couple of pitches. I can try and take the first pitch for test purposes however that would be a change into how I have been approaching the plate.
