Honestly if they’re skill involved keep it. I’d rather have this than 20’s gravity ball down the middle pitches.
I mean is it really skill? Seems kind of gimmicky to me. At least on the old 2K games the gesture corresponds to the wind up and release of the pitch. From what I see in practice you do the gesture and then just watch the pitcher throw dots.
Yes it is a skill, the gesture also corresponds to the release to, you don't just gesture and the pitcher pitches.
If an ump is giving the corners in real life that is one thing......they all aren’t perfect....he is giving the corner, but this is stupid the way it’s exactly on the border at will.

Once you do the gesture you have to time the pitcher’s release, which is different for every pitcher and a lot harder on higher difficulties

Why is that stupid? Seems you are arguing that the game should override good input by making it miss even if they have the skill/ability to do so.
Which again, go play 20 then.

Isn't that why it's called 'Pinpoint?'
I guess they named it that for a reason.

It is, that player put the time in to master it and is being rewarded for his good input.

For instance on meter if you miss the yellow tick mark by a hair sometimes it will groove the pitch down the middle. It looks to me like on pinpoint if you aren’t perfect you maybe won’t be able to throw an exact dot.
-
It’s funny, pinpoint has made it easier to hit in some cases because if you know a guy likes to throw a sinker up, then you know to look for a sinker up instead of the pitch going to a random spot because the game decided Greg Maddox has no control of his sinker.

I like the idea behind it but it is excessive at this point in my opinion.
-
Hitting against Pinpoint is great! I can't hit pitches down the middle anyway.

I respectfully disagree. Something needs to be tweaked. Shouldn’t be able to put it on the exact corner consistently.
There is skill involved, you need to do 3 things to have a perfect release, and even with a perfect release you can still miss the exact spot. So you aim for the corner, get a perfect release, and still throw a ball just outside the zone.
Especially in an online environment with latency being a factor, its not as easy as it seems. If you master it, it's greatly beneficial for sure. That's no reason to remove it or to tweak it. I prefer this over the meatballs down the middle on good input. I don't care if you paint corners, I'll pick up on your tendencies and punish you for being predictable. That's also how baseball works.
-
If a guy is consistently painting the corners: 1) Park the PCI in one of those four corners. 2) Time the pitch. 3) Hit it a long way.
Sure, those pitches may not be as easy to crush as a meatball down the middle, but it can be done. Most of the time I still use meter since I can hit the corners pretty well with it, but I've also played with pinpoint and like it. Taking pinpoint out of the game (which has been a very popular addition) is an absurd request which will go no where.

So no that's not how it works, you gesture then you need to time the release by moving from top snapping across to bottom to the point you need to aim at for location and do so with the pitchers actual release and those are your release and aim inputs.
I mean you obviously haven't used it because you don't know how it works... Why don't you try it and use it yourself?
-
Kinda of hilarious if the same pitch is being thrown in the same spot and you know it’s coming, you can’t hit it. If you could, he’d probably change his strategy.
-
I am more worried about these Zen machines I have been reading about. Unreal and simply not fun.

I personally think there isn’t much skill involved and that pin point is easier to get good input on than any other setting.
Yesterday I got a perfect release with a 77% accuracy on the gesture which is just crazy to me. I’d say I get a “perfect” on 80-90% in game but the real issue is where those 10-20% that aren’t perfect end up. My misses all end up in the dirt or so far outside the zone that I never have any fear that when I miss my pitch it’s going to hang. If I see I messed up the gesture enough where I can’t get a perfect, I just make sure I throw it late and to the side and it goes safely in the dirt. Then I’m ready to paint with my next pitch.
In my opinion they need to do 2 things:
-
Greatly tighten up the ranges for “perfect” input. I’d say no less than 92% accuracy on all pitch types.
-
Get rid of instant feedback on the gesture that lets you know before you ever start the pitch if you need to purposely throw late or early to make sure the ball sails way out of the zone to avoid hanging pitches.

I haven't tried pinpoint, but from what I have read on the forum since release the OP is a wildly unpopular opinion. With so many people upset about good user input not being rewarded, this guy is effectively saying user input shouldn't matter as much. Wild.

If they’re not going to tone down the ability to hit dingers on pitches a foot off the plate, which they never have, the PPP is a good counter.
