New Ballplayer Feature
-
So SDS released another video this week regarding Ballplayer feature new to MLBTS 21. There was alot of new info released in this video. From Podcast introduction to a little bit of a deep dive explanation to how your player can be utilized all the way to a new program of rewards for your personlized/centralized player so many things to look forward too.
They said this was a foundation of what we can expect to see going forward which to make a long story short, leaves alot of oppurtunities left open to explore in the future which is really exciting. And based off of feedback from fans like you and me. This could be something that turns into one of those moments where we all put our thoughts together a create something that could be memorable for years to come.
While i understand some of the features asked for in some of wishlist threads did not make it into video or the mode. I do wanna tell those folks try to keep an open mind of how this could work not only now but future purposes.
One of the things that grabbed my attention was the "Dynamic" path that your player can take. This to me means if I wanted to create 10 different players none of the scenarios are gonna be the same.
This is huge! I don't know how many times i have logged into a game to play the story or venture off through an open world, and the playthrough felt repetitive. This is why i am excited about the dynamic podcast feature, not to mention 180 different podcasts from 13 unique personalities relaying that message. Giving you a personalized experience every time!!
Another part that caught my attention was being able to play the way you always have, or busting it wide open with a two way player that can be used in Diamond Dynasty or (DD for short). Nonetheless this really opens up gameplay experience to superceed anything you have seen from MLBTS to this point. This is especially exciting for people who are new to MLBTS b/c you folks are getting to witness a groundbreaking feature that is new to everybody in your first year experience. So definitely happy for you folks.
But to touch a little bit more about this. You are going to get to decide how your player will be used. Like video said if you create a two-way player for instance you will be able to decide how your player is used rather than Manager just calling you into office and saying we are gonna try you out at 3rd base when you created a SS. Once again giving you complete control of path you wanna take.
And last but definitely not least! Loadouts, perks, and architypes in packs? What does it mean? Well some of it can be diciphered but in good ol SDS fashion some of it you are gonna just have to wait for the Day 1 surprises. Which i love b/c it always exceeds my expectations and feels like Christmas in spring.
But i also wanna say that the new program path for your ballplayer looks very intriguing.
-
Perks - There was pack of perks which you saw if you watched video, but there was also a tab that said rarity. Are we to believe as we progress our player we will see different level of perks from bronze to Diamond? I f we do that opens up another window to create a more realistic type player that perhaps has gold batting and bronze fielding? So another approach to gameplay experience?
-
Archatypes - This one was also interesting and presented in a pack form. Is this something like NBA 2K or Madden where you have a slot to put coach or playbook type card? And does that mean card could be lets say a flamethrower pack or will it be a choice pack where you get to choose from options?
-
Loadouts- I thought this was really cool it suggest that not only how you do with player, but equipment you choose for your player to help player progression. So in moments for example if you need 5 hits, you gonna want to find and match equipment to that peticular moment to give your player a better chance to succeed.
I know this was long, but i got really excited about this when video came out. And just wanted to read what others took from it, and how you will approach this feature if at all?

I wasn’t very impressed by this feature at all. It reminded me of a Volvo. It’s really wants to be a BMW but it’s still a Volvo.
I think they are trying to next gen the game without really next gen-ing the game. Mlb the show was never very good at production, player introduction, announcing and the “extras”. Seemed to me like a repetitive extra that is going to fall short of what it’s anticipated to be.

Imagine that! You not impressed with a feature that isn't specific to MP go figure. (rolls eyes)

Loadouts sounds absolutely idiotic. Why would I need to change my player's play style from one game to the next??? This isn't World of Warcraft or Final Fantasy where you build your character situationally. Mike Trout doesn't walk into the clubhouse and say you know what guys, we're playing the Rangers today. I'm only gonna use 3 of my 5 Tools.

I feel sorry for new people coming in here to these forums and reading the negativity. Trying to be excited for a game they wanted for long time and be forced to read spew.

I already touched on that aspect in the thread but judging by question one has to assume you did'nt even read it. So to answer question,
Moments could be one reason if trying to accomplish a moment such as get 5 hits.
Maybe you want to change to a different bat or a piece of equipment that provides better vision?
With the changeing of checkswings maybe you want something with more plate discipline?
Maybe scenario is extra innings and you are starting out on 2nd base so you change cleats for more speed?

I watched the video...I was commenting on it and how they explained what loadouts were and how they could be used. Changing the playstyle of a hitter to be contact focused one day and speed the next. It didn't sound like you could change your equipment in the middle of a game. Because again, Mike Trout doesn't call time out and say "hang on guys, I need to put my base stealing cleats on." To be honest I'm excited for the ballplayer addition. I'd like to see how increasing his attributes work. Do I have to "Level" him up in RTTS first? If I never play RTTS and use him solely in DD, can I get him up to a 99 Diamond...and then fire up an RTTS and get drafted as a 99? LOL. But just something about the Loadouts thing seemed Tidious.

No not middle of game. I am referring to moments where you know situation and goals before entering and you change it to fit that moment prior to entering moment.
Yes you can use them solely in DD. You might have to create him in RTTS, but as far as using him you never have to play in RTTS the way i understood it. Maybe the showcase is all?
The part about building them up and going back to RTTS and getting drafted as a 99 i am curious about that as well. I would think something is in place to prevent that. Unless that's where programs comes into play you have to earn enough program points to unlock the next level? There was moments specific to RTTS and DD and both had 1 or 2 that were repeatable so you wouldn't be forced to play both modes if you don't want to.

I’m actually a very open minded individual. I base my thoughts on past installments of the game. They haven’t gotten announcing right in years...you think they will nail broadcasting? Be realistic. There is so much more to talk about then that considering it seemed extremely dull.
I also think create a player has taken a step BACKWARD it looked like I said underwealming. Load outs? I mean whatever. Not very impressed by the last premier — so far it’s the first thing I’m not impressed with.
That’s not being toxic - it’s being honest.

I don't have a problem with broadcasting so to sit there and try to say they haven't gotten it right in years is your opinion. And it sounds like you want the "I dream of Jeanie" version of the game where they twinkle nose and bam it's in the game.
People asked for more broadcasting types in 19 and they introduced on field Heidi Wattney i thought was cool and brought a new feature.
For at least 4 or 5 years people were wanting and asking for players milestones to be recognized, and they also wanted to have player be interviewed more in depth. The podcast meets in the middle of that aspect.
An "openminded person" would see this as a step forward to what they are trying to do. And speaking of, referring to past installments of the game. How many times have they came out and said they can't get every request into game every year? Not to mention the influx of new players this year and they had to deal with Covid and they still created this feature. That is the Reality.
This is why I call you closeminded, and the fact i had to point this out to you does not indicate you think in reality either. I would lean more toward an instant gratfication type before labeling you a realistic thinker.

I actually think the menus and production look dull. That’s my honest opinion. That’s not me being negative — it looks way scaled back.
And as far as commentary. The games commentary is absolutely horrendous. My opinion. Sure. I really don’t understand how anyone can like it. It’s very very bad I can almost predict what’s going to be said
“Trout hits it hard to left field and deep...a ball that’s carrying (that means it’s caught) and at the warning track heeeeeee makes the catch”.
Same old lame commentary that’s plagued this game for a very very very long time. It would honestly be an absolute shame if they did not completely revamp and redo ALL of the commentary for 21 stepping into next gen.
they want to focus on RTTS and create a player clips — ok. You like that. That’s your opinion. My opinion is they should had completely redone all of the commentary and made THAT more dynamic game to game. But to each his own
To me...this is wasted time. On pointless things. That honestly didn’t really look all that great - seems like something that’s going to be extremely predictable and I think focus could have been targeted elsewhere. We all have our own opinions.

The most obvious use would be a two way player. You would then have a pitching loadout and a hitting loadout.
In the end I think they just want to encourage RTTS players to buy more equipment.
-
I am still pretty convinced that much of what I saw outside of the Podcast are simply ways to try and monetize the mode.
-
Looking back, remember when they got praise for removing the ability to buy training points? Everyone seemed to ignore the fact the fact that they capped your player the same year and required that you buy equipment to max out your player. In the end it is the same thing.
-
The reward path screen showed equipment packs and perk packs. Will these packs be offered in the store? If so then it is once again no different than spending stubs for training points except packs are random and not a guaranteed upgrade like purchasing training points. Which of course means spending more stubs.
-
They flat out said "Through playing and training you will be able to get all of your base attributes to 50. From 50, beyond that, that is where you really begin to impact those stats with your loadouts and archetype items." I don't know about you but 50 base stat caps earned by playing seems really LOW! they want you spending your stubs and hopefully buying more stubs to get the best gear (and perks??)
-
We know equipment goes away from year to year with carry over saves. If perks are now cards to be equipped like equipment then it is safe to assume that those would go away as well. Meaning that even if you can carry over your save in the future that you might just be carrying over a player that has been set back to 50 base stats forcing you to venture into the market to rebuy them every year.
My guess is that we won't know the full story until early release weekend. They showed us only what they wanted to show us.

I respect you and your posts. You always bring up good points that can make you wonder. With that being said, i am going to try to convince you otherwise.
In RTTS in the past you would choose the architype at time of creating player, and if i remember correctly your overall did not change. And based off of performance in showcase would determine what your starting overall would be going into draft.
Yes base model without architype or perks seems to be at 50 but watch video again it shows how the overall changes once architype is added then it shows how overall jumps when adding architype + perks.
The reward path indicates that you will earn 4 perks 3 equipment an 1000 to 2000 stubs in first playthrough. And because the first 2 are repeatable i don't think you are gonna be grinding very long. Plus there are other missions you can play in DD to get more rewards or points for reward tree. Because of the rewards tree having 3 equipment packs in a repeatable system i do not think it will be a reason to have to spend stubs,
Unless you use your player in DD only. That is when you might use stubs to buy equipment because you just don't want to navigate to the RTTS reward tree screen but it does not look mandatory. Because as you use your player all you have to is go to rewards screen and just simply claim them as you complete missions.
It looks like to me the goal is to get to end of tree to get the architype boost but along the way you will be recieving perks and equipment to make you progressively better based off of what you put in the slots along the way.
I would also like to add that with the reward tree giving equipment and perks that perhaps no more Boss battle potentially (this is an assumption.)
Hope i explained it to understand.

I know i already responded to this post initially. After sleeping on it i began to wonder about loadouts and what could they mean? While i think my other post is a reason and i also agree with @Dolenz in regards to the two way player aspect as well.
But it got me thinking, at beginning of Video Nick Livingston was talking to Ramone about this being a new thing moving forward a foundation of things to come! Then Ramone cuts him off and says "I'm gonna let you go b/c i don't want you to give away to much!"
Maybe introduction of different loadouts this year is leading to COOP feature for future game? Think about it. Your loading into a screen with others to play a COOP game and 3 people have 1rst base loadouts already and 3 have SS somebody is gonna have to change loadout? Then you figure in the two way player creation aspect? You can be a starter or a reliever? I dunno just hit me while i was in my think tank last night. Possible?

There is a lot we just don't know yet and probably won't until release. Taking DD out of the equation and just looking at RTTS
- How long will it take to progress through the tasks. The one they showed on screen was the Contact 1 list. It looked simple and quick but as you move up to contact 2-? just how many plate appearances will later tiers take.
As an example I played 100's of hours of DD this year (all offline) and had a Created Player at the top of my lineup all year. I never maxed that created player out. I did not make it to the total hits needed.
- Packs. I am really interest to see about the Perks packs and the Archetype pack it showed at 100 mission points. Are these like player packs? Are there going to be tiered (bronze, silver, gold, diamond) perks? Will the diamond perks be as rare as diamond players and equipment in regular packs? Same question for the Archetype pack.
I will probably dive into the mode in the early access phase to get a better idea. Until that point we are just speculating based on our trust in the dev team. As someone who only played RTTS until 4 or 5 years ago my trust has been deteriorated as the fun factor (for me) has been decreased with almost every change that they have made to the mode in that time frame.
-
Only thing i speculated was this could lead to COOP. The rest was in video, first 2 mission in RTTS and DD are not gonna change @ contact 2, and the other missions showed a reward of more points toward tree. I do trust the dev team and i don't think they have reason to lie to us.

Half hearted? They designed them to be informative in regards of what to expect to see with your player.
1rst video talked about two way player, explaing how it could be harder with two specialties as opposed to 1.
2nd video talked about hitting in AAA and how you need to be aware of situation and be more patient at that level.
I thought it came across the way it should, especially when talking about the amount of new players that will be trying it.
