why would you buy the game on both consoles? From my understanding, you can be on say PS5 and play with your friends on xbox one. Only reason to own two copies is achievement hunting.

Some people have kids and more than one console.
Might need to switch playing time between them and not lose progress if MLB is the only game they play.

Not the only reason. Somebody might have one console at mum’s place and the other at dad’s place and may have saved up to buy the game on both because it’s their favourite game.

So if I buy the Digital deluxe edition I will get a PS4 version and PS5 version. Is it tied to the same PlayStation account am I basically getting two games. I just got the PS5 so now my kids play on the PS4. Will they be able to do their own thing on their own account while I do mine on the PS5? Can we play at the same time?

Not if it’s a disc version, disc is required for the game to work. Even with a digital upgrade, it still checks for the disc. This is the way it also happened with PS3-4 digital upgrades.
Edit: my bad, I need to properly read. You said digital deluxe so my answer doesn’t apply to your particular question.

PS gameshare feature lets you do exactly what your asking, the account that bought the game will need to be the primary user so you can download it. Buy the game, download it, then switch your kids PS, go to account, set that PlayStation to your primary PS, and download it on there. Go back to your PS, switch that PS back to your primary PlayStation now that the game is installed and everyone can play whenever they want. Only works on TWO consoles.

he has to leave his primary system as the ones his kids play on ,or it would be locked for them.
