The Blue Jays are about to land Marcus Semien, per Jon Heyman of the MLB Network (via Twitter). The deal is for one year and $18MM, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan (via Twitter). Toronto plans to make Semien their everyday second baseman, adds the Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal (via Twitter).

Ron Johnson, who worked 25 seasons as a minor league manager and spent the the 2010 and '11 seasons as the Red Sox's first base coach, died Tuesday. He was 64.

BREAKING: Curt Schilling has requested his name be taken off the ballot for his tenth and final year of eligibility next year. In a letter to the Hall of Fame, Schilling says “I will not participate in the final year of voting.”
He also added “I am requesting to be removed from the ballot. I’ll defer to the veterans committee and men whose opinions actually matter and who are in a position to actually judge a player.” -
Shortstop Andrelton Simmons and the Minnesota Twins are in agreement on a one-year, $10.5 million contract, sources familiar with the deal told ESPN's Jeff Passan.
