Statement from the MLB and MLBPA: "As we've made clear to the league on multiple occasions, we expect Spring Training and the regular season to the start time, and as scheduled, consistent with our CBA. The league does not have the authority or legal basis to unilaterally delay or shorten the schedule without Players consent. While there still continue to be challenges, our Players have proven they can safely play a season under difficult circumstances, as have the other sports. The Commissioners Office has assured us that they have instructed the Clubs to prepare for an on time start."

The Cubs have released starter Colin Rea.

The Toronto Blue Jays reportedly attempted to sign George Springer to a contract that was "well under" the $150 million the free-agent outfielder is looking for this offseason.
Jim Duquette of SNY reported the news Monday, noting Toronto's offer was still "aggressive" and in the five-year range.

RIP Tommy Lasorda. He passed away late last night at the age of 93.
