I was able to play this game on HOF at the "sharper" settings and saw almost 0 difference at all between Sharper and Faster. I even recorded a video on if you're interested : https://youtu.be/N4P5ax0MVoU .
But if you're not interested in that, that's cool!
I will give a TLDW: Sharper setting on ps5 can make an MLB stadium feel like a minor league stadium on ps4 with maaaaaybe a frame drop here or there. Faster on ps5 locks the game in at it's max frames and never drops once but the difference is very little. I think you can play competitively on sharper without issues.
TLDR to the TLDW: PS5 GOOD

So sharper is for better graphics and faster is better for gameplay? And is it worth it for 400 to upgrade if you only play this game?

This is a little confusing, so I'm not a casual DD noob so I don't care about graphics but care about frame rates...so Faster is what gives me consistent frame rates on the PS5?

I think what OP is saying is that Sharper on the PS5 does not result in the game quality factors, such as frame rates, suffering, which is what happens on PS4 on sharper setting.

On the PS4 or PS4 Pro you needed to set the game to faster to help in game performance. Even on that setting there were frame drops during every game. Putting it on sharper meaning it would run at 4K was even worse. Now on the PS5 setting it on sharper gives you great visuals along with super smooth gameplay and rock solid frame rates. I just picked up a new 28” Samsung 4K monitor and the game runs and looks fantastic at 4K.

Well my console isn’t rattling my windows every time I play TS20 now so I’m calling that a plus. Also I no longer have to use faster setting to catch up to the pitch when I hit. And sharing to YouTube is much simpler, and copying clips to USB can now be done in the background.

Playing at 4K and on sharper plays at the max framerate available the whole time. that is better than a PS4 Pro on 1080P/4K and on faster setting struggling to hit max FPS. The gameplay on PS5 is 100% smooth. I have played about 12 hours since i got my PS5 and have noticed zero dips in frames. It only can max out at 60FPS, because no PS4 games can go past that, but it is plenty for this game. We just havent seen it in so long.
