What is it with pitch speed in ranked?
-
I get it, fastballs are supposed to be hard to hit, but if I need a monitor to hit the most common pitch in the game, it seems a bit extreme.
I just played a ranked game where I outhit my opponent (who had one bunt single with a Lou Brock and a solo home run with Musial all game) and I just could not consistently make contact on fastballs.
My opponent was pretty predictable and relied on high and tight heat with Walter Johnson and then Vida Blue. I could be sitting on a pitch I knew was coming and still not catch up to it. Then suddenly, once in a while I would catch up to one.

I’ve been there, my friend. At this point, I think we all know that the connection between you and your opponent impacts pitch speeds. And I wonder if something fluctuates with the fidelity of the connection mid game that make pitches seem to speed up or slow down. Beyond that though, I also feel like the timing window, particularly on fast balls, is very narrow. I can sit fastball, and swing one time and crush it 9 miles foul, and then perceptibly swing at the exact same time and be very late on the next fastball. I say perceptibly because obviously I’m probably not swinging at the same time, but the margin of error is so small, that two swings that “feel” the same to me result in either very early or very late. It also seems that I have a larger timing window and more time to swing on a 96mph two seemer than I do on a different pitcher’s 94mph fastball. But maybe that’s just me.

HoF speeds wouldn't be so bad if AS were the same speed.

Do you have a PS4 Pro or just a regular PS4? There is a huge difference in frame rates per second and such which makes it harder to catch up to the fastball. I have the same issue as you do, but I am running a regular PS4 and not the pro. It's not SDS like most people believe.

I didn't think about that.. I'm on an original ps4... I didn't realize the frame rates were different...
