On the who belongs in the HOF point, an extremely hot take I have is that Ben Zobrist should be a hall of famer the moment he's eligible for voting because he virtually created the utility player and was one of the first examples of WAR showing the true value of a player, bringing the stat to light. He's also beloved to 3 different fanbases for his work with them.

If they want to put Flood in the HoF for reasons not related to his career stats, that’s fine. But he certainly did not have a Hall of Fame career statistically.

100% agree. reached only 15% of HOF voting, and that was his last year on the ballot. Offense was very average at best. Fielding was pretty good. HOF committee would be opening up Pandora's box if they elect him just because of politicians.

Flood had a solid 12 years in the pros. He also didn't steal too many bases when he did get on (88 career SB). Lou Brock stole more bases in ONE season than Flood did in his entire career. Flood was also a career .293 hitting. He's not getting in.

While I agree with the sentiment, It's hard to justify "he would have done x" thought process. That's getting into a slippery slope. Could Flood have gained enough stats to make it if he kept playing? Absolutely, but we don't know.
There are a ton of variables. It's like saying Grady Sizemore would have been a HOF, but injuries stopped him. Granted the situation is a bit different, but what if Flood had injuries as he got older? So, imo replacing the "would've been a guy that got elected" to "Could've been a guy that got elected". Nothing is ever guaranteed.

It doesn’t matter what he did in the postseason, it’s about his career. His career was decent, but there’s plenty of solid reasons against him being in the Hall.
In the grand scheme of things, his career is near the bottom among hall of famers.
It took him 18 years to get 43.2 fWAR. That’s pretty underwhelming. He only had two seasons with 5 fWAR. He only had a 108 wRC+ the year he stole 118 bases. He was basically a league average offensive player that year, and only had 3.0 fWAR.
Good player, but him being in the hall of fame is highly debatable.

I don’t undervalue him, I’m just saying what the stats show. And the stats show that he was good but not amazing, and that he just played for forever.
No you undervalue SB and postseason play. He was electrifying on the base paths and came through on the big stage when he was most needed. You said so what to both, so you undervalue the 2 biggest things about him. So there is no point continuing this discussion.
