Ken Burns has to be the best documentary! I have never watched Fever Pitch but I’ll give it a try for sure

Great choices. I haven't watched Fever Pitch, but looked up the trailer, and that was funny. I like Field of Dreams and the Sandlot, but haven't seen the others.

I also can't believe no one has mentioned bang the drum slowly seeing as it deserves a spot among the best baseball movies.

I love 98% of Ken Burns Baseball, but I have to say Ty Cobb got shafted due to Burns not doing the necessary research to paint Cobb in a more objective light. He just took Al Stump's (highly fictionalized) book and ran with it. Other than that I love that film.

Fever Pitch is a romantic comedy with baseball as a background mechanic. It is actually a remake of a film from the UK which has the same premise but about soccer.

The other fun fact about the US version of Fever Pitch is they actually had the film 100% complete but ended up filming parts of the end because of the Red Sox unpredictable World Series run in 2004.

Ken Burn's Baseball is incredible for anyone wanting a real history lesson on baseball.

Another semi-related fun fact: (14 year old LOST spoilers incoming)

The Others showed Jack a clip of the final out to prove they had contact with the outside world. But if the clip had run just a few seconds longer, the broadcast would have included a shot of Fallon and Barrymore celebrating on the field. at which point Jack would have dismissed the clip as fake.

Can't recommend Burn's Baseball enough. I re-watch it at least once every couple of years. They should have created a new category at the Emmys just so they could have an excuse to give Buck O'Neil some sort of award.

The entire series was built with Jackie Robinson as the fulcrum. If that's the narrative you're running with, there's no place to show Cobb in any sort of good light.

    The Natural

I cant not tear up when the lightning strikes right before a bleeding Roy Hobbs crushes that pitch into the light array.....

As the ball flies in slow -mo and you hear the announcer in the background going crazy....and then that score comes in....

It hits me in the soul.

    Its perfect.

Otherwise, Major League is just so quotable, its a classic.

Cobb didn't have to be shown in a "good" light. Just an accurate one. Example: there are quotes from Cobb in Charles Leerhsen's book that show Cobb advocating for the integration of baseball. Yet in Burns documentary he accuses Cobb of "deploring the integration of the game," which is a complete falsehood.

Again, Burns just heard what he wanted to hear about Cobb and decided to weave it into his narrative which, yes, Robinson was the crux of. But you can't tell the story of the history of baseball without telling the story of Ty Cobb, so he should have at least tried to tell it as accurately as possible.
