I wonder how accurate those exit velo read outs are. Sometimes I absolutely smoke the ball and it says it’s like 99 or 100, and then other times it seems like a routine can of corn but it says it was 110 or something. I think the wind might play a part but who knows anymore.

I believe in most online modes there is no wind

Even in real life a 109 exit velo has a .712 expected batting average. So it's not a guaranteed hit.

Correct. But the 109 mile an hour outs are generally line drives right to somebody. I think the OP’s beef is that a 109 mile an hour fly ball (He mentioned a good launch angle) should not land in the field of play unless there’s a hurricane or the ball hits a bird. I found this site that if you input the launch angle and exit velocity, it shows results from similarly batted balls.

I’m pretty sure they brought wind back to RS this year. I think I remember that happened earlier in the year. Am I cray?

the guy said he hit 2 similar pitches with 2 completely different results. You said it's because its a video game. I think I should be able to win online homerun derby's with commons, but it doesn't happen. It should though, right?

You’re making less sense as time goes on.

no, it makes sense. you just think its stupid for a common player to win a HR derby. But hey, keep the doggie face comments coming.

Yes I do think it’s stupid for a common player to win a HR derby. What am I missing here?

It goes back to the original post and someone's answer is "its a video game". So why cant a common win a HR derby since it's a video game?

I don’t know. Why won’t I date a fat girl? These are questions that answer themselves.

The reason you probably see the “video game” show you ridiculous exit velos, is because the game has ridiculous attributes where guys have 125% the power Judge and Stanton do, 125% of Vottos contact ability, pitchers have 125% the ability of Max Scherzer who doesn’t give up runs. Why would it make sense? How could those attributes possibly translate to realism? Was it off a 103 mph sinker to boot?

It’s a video game, the ball isn’t travelling 109 mph it’s pixels changing colour on a screen.

I think the “it’s s video game” reply kind of doesn’t hold up. I mean the developer did an entire patch just to make hitting feedback support the outcomes and explain them in a “realistic” way.

I’d be fine if the game took itself less seriously, it’s just striking when the results seem so arbitrary and random.

I from baseball savant i pulled the results of all FLYBALLS hit 109 MPH or greater in 2019. Here are the results:

    601 batted balls, 595 hits = .990 batting average.

Of the 6 outs they were hit by and traveled a distance of:
    Acuna 400'
    Hunter Dozier 399'
    Realmuto 396'
    Soler 385'
    Gallo 347'
    Kris Bryant 334'

It's so rare and so unlikely.

Great evidence! That’s pretty much how it seemed in the moment: rare and unlikely.
