Developers preview of franchise sucked. Having real minor league rosters is awesome!!! I love that. It’s makes it a win. The rest was boring with zero effort or depth. I’d rather have 10 uniform options with mix and matching like we can already do with the MLB teams, then just ONE home and away option. Oh and my stadium is a minor league stadium? Uh no thanks. Classic? No I hate those too. I want to replicate modern times. Is the Twins logos still going to be in their classic dome? If I play in Phillies stadium is their [censored] everywhere? Deal breaker. Like I said having minor league rosters makes this year a win. Don’t half [censored] relocation and rebranding and act like it’s now in the game. Just say we put in 30% of rebranding and will get to the rest with the next generation console. I don’t expect stadium creator. How about 3 new modern options to choose and have logos displayed in predetermined spots. This feels like I mowed my lawn but just did half of it. Love this game but today frustrated me just because they teased me. What about all the bugs in the mode. Those fixed? Then it’s and bolts of franchise seem to be not touched. We wouldn’t know because the dude spent 5 minutes on pasting logos from the vault to your team. Fix the bugs 1st. Make franchise more immersive. Creat a manager mode!! Hmm weird. Done!
Yep, I knew create a stadium was not going to be in, it would have been advertised, but I had hoped they would put in a couple MLB like stadiums to switch to when relocating. This makes relocating a team totally pointless. Even rebranding is stupid if your stadium has logos or team name on it. The only hope is this is laying the ground work for future improvements to this feature. Then again no mention of that in the stream, like sorry no create a stadium just yet, or hopefully next year we will get some more stadiums. This is basically taking the DD team creator and putting it on front end and in Franchise, something that should have been done years ago.
I was buying 20 no matter what, but it appears that DD will be my focus again, because that is obviously the only mode that they care about.
This is the problem. This is what makes me so annoyed. This is exactly what these companies want. Give us bare bones on the other modes, which pretty much forces us into playing a mode that is basically gambling. Sure they aren't as bad as EA. But MUT has been around a lot longer. SDS will get there.
I agree, I didnt buy 19 for this reason. Until I see drastic improvements. I am on the every other year purchase. Once I get to the end of the year and DD is dying out and SDS starts work on 21, I'll then play franchise mode on 20 through next year and buy 22.
I'm really close to doing the same. I've bought every MLB The Show for at least the last 6-7 years. But this year, I might just skip it. I'm waiting to see what was done to March to October. That mode showed promised last year. But it needs to blow me away before I even consider buying the new one. This mean's full roster control, being able to start with any roster I want. (updated) being able to do multiple seasons, better presentation etc.
I personally hate DD. I'll play some of the single player challenges and whatnot. But I have zero desire to play online against people. Especially in sports game. And when you consider the fact that a lot of people spend real money to upgrade their team.
Yeah, you sound like a perfect example of someone who should not buy every year. I hate H2H play, so I dont get as much out of DD as others.
I buy every year to support SDS. And because I want the updated features and roster. But frankly, I feel they are becoming more and more like EA. Ignore the single player aspect and try and force everyone to play DD. Make it such a grind that people feel the need to spend the extra money to upgrade.
Well it's been clear to me the past 5 years that all other modes have taken a backseat to DD, that is something I can't just blindly support each year.
-
Meanwhile, I'm sitting here wishing I could enjoy Diamond Dynasty. I've never cared for Franchise mode, but I find DD's manner of acquiring and progressing your team to be much more interesting and entertaining than the dry-as-a-bone bureaucracy of being a GM in Franchise. But since I don't like playing online, I'm not invited.

Those are some good ideas to make M2O more engaging for those of us that don't care for the card rewards.
Let's hope they've done the roster control - in order to do that the rewards would need to be based on time spent playing and not winning the World Series which would be fine. Already it looks like they are rewarding team affinity points along the way which is an excellent start.
The multiple seasons is a great idea as well, it would need to sacrifice the opening video clip each subsequent year though, which is also fine.

Yeah I don't know what the rewards were last year. I played one season with my Mets and half a season with Arizona and I got bored with the mode. So I'm perfectly fine with them doing away with them. Probably just banners and other pointless things anyways. Or for those who are interested, I don't see why it can't win the WS still. Or have a player win ROTY, win this award, hit X number of homeruns. Plenty of ways to still get them in there.

Huh? I acquired the best team I have ever been able to acquired in DD in the 2019 version and I played a total of maybe 3 Battle Royale games. Between the Conquest Maps and the Moments this past year was the easiest year of all to enjoy DD offline.

This was probably the easiest year ever to get a competitive team without grinding or spending money.

I don't like Moments since
- The overwhelming majority don't involve my DD team
- They're isolated and inorganic do-this-and-nothing-else tasks. I don't find that satisfying
Conquest, no matter how many maps get added, is nothing but three-inning road games. I don't like three-inning games, let alone exclusively away ones where I have zero use for my stadium cards and never see my home uniforms.
Play vs. CPU is largely pointless because the only tangible things you can accomplish are the uninteresting background tasks that are XP, program stars and TA innings. There's no challenge, no excitement in accruing those compared to most of the stat missions of 17 and 18.
What I want is something that's more like an offline counterpart to Ranked Seasons - one with proper nine-inning games that is also a longer-term marathon the way a real baseball season is.
-
How can anybody not like the ability to rebrand your team and create your own uniforms?

I think what people are upset about is the lack of effort involved. This exact functionality has existed in DD for years and I agree with the folks who are upset and feel insulted that the big marketing push has been "wow, look at this great new feature we added to franchise" when it really should have existed at least as long as it's been in DD.

My #1 was to be able to do this. I agree it should have existed previously but I glad it exists now.

I agree with everything you said. I don't care how much of a grind it is. I still hate online play. Especially in sports games. So building this team is pretty much pointless, because it's just playing boring 3 inning games against CPU. the options for offline, they just aren't fun. A season mode would be fun. Especially if we can invite our friends or something.

There have been so many of the same issues with Franchise over the last several years - most of them outlined here - that it's an annual disappointment when they don't get them taken care of. For me, the things I would like to see solved are:
- non-roster invites to Spring Training
- fully fleshed-out High-A affiliates
- deeper Rule 4 Draft with revamped scouting system
- greater and more obvious impact of coaching/training
- in-season contract extensions for the whole season
- more realistic trade engine that makes optimization harder and allows you to build/ruin relationships with other GMs
- a legit owner mode similar to MVP 2005 that allows you to build a stadium and have realistic cashflow issues
.... and others. I don't care at all about rebranding or relocation - I want to be able to build my Orioles from the ground up and MVP 05 did a better job of this than MLBTS is doing 15 years later.
Thankfully, I really enjoy the DD experience even though I spend zero additional money on it, so for the past three years I've put Franchise to the side except on occasion and just enjoy the outstanding depth of content and diversity of experience that DD provides. And for me, playing online is usually enjoyable, except for the occasional jagoff.
-
Here's the problem. There are 333 post to the Forums about RTTS and Franchise.... there are 5.6k about Diamond Dynasty.
They don't care about our favorite modes. They only really care about all that $$$$$$ that Diamond Dynasty brings in. Sadly offline modes are basically dead since online gaming has become the norm.
-
It’s not a case of the developers not caring about the modes. I get the impression from the streams, interviews and their tweets and replies to questions that these guys care as much if not more about the core modes of Franchise and RTTS as they do the DD modes.
As much as it pains me to say it they have an obligation to their investors to make them money. The way that they can do this is to allocate their resources in a way that will help them meet their financial targets (targets that are set FOR them, not by them).
Unfortunately because a large proportion of their player base is involved in DD, this involves a huge chunk of resources going towards improvements to the DD modes and RTTS, and a much smaller chunk to Franchise.
This is unfortunately how companies need to work. A bridge builder must go to where the rivers are to do his work. Otherwise a lot of money will be spent for very little gain.
With regards to the posts to the shownation.com forum being around 15:1 ratio DD:non-DD, it certainly is disproportionate here In these forums. On OS it’s probably the other way around though (a whole other world there!).

I'm not forced into playing another mode. I'm just not buying the game. I have another baseball game I play. I haven't touched 19 since October.

I guess I disagree with the posters here.
If it has:
- 26 man rosters
- full minor leagues
- the new 3 batter rule for pitches
- and the ability to designate someone like Ohtani as a 2 way player.......
I'm sold.
If all the above is true.

Because nobody rebrands their team. Its a pointless feature. Give us expansion mode with a stadium creator like MVP Baseball or just get rid of franchise mode so i can save 60 bucks. The game is getting pathetic. Ok i was thinking. Rays rebranded in 08. No other team in recent history has completely rebranded their name. Its dumb. They dont care. And for the show 21 they now have to focus on porting the game to xbox. So thats a waste of a year. Im sick of SDS.

Stadium creator might happen in the future but I disagree nobody relocates their team.Oakland used to be Kansas City and prior to that Philadelphia.
Baltimore used to be St Louis
San Francisco used to be New York
Los Angeles used to be New York
Atlanta used to be Milwaukee.
Texas used to be Washington
Washington used to be MontrealMy early impression of gameplay is the relocation/rebranding is the best thing about the game. I'm not impressed with a couple other things I'm seeing in mlbts20
