Fastball speed differences in ranked question
-
So I play most of my ranked seasons games on HOF difficulty, And can typically catch up to the fastball (or sinker) pretty well. However in some games these same pitches feel and or look like they are coming in way faster, and I have a hard time catching up to them. Do you think this is just based on the connection of that certain game? Thanks.

I have also had issues. Im not a great hitter, but sometimes it does feel like the pitches are way faster than normal. Online versus offline is different, but it shouldn't be that significant. My opinion anyway.

I believe it is related to the connections you and your opponent have.

I agree with this...
I wish I could play more games on HOF or above. I played a casual online game earlier and the game was so smooth, no questionable BS, no base running problems etc, close game, great game, everything seemed very fair. I think the guy I played was in Tenn. and the connection was better than when I play guys was closer to me.
I go back to Ranked (I'm stuck in the 550-650 range) and I get another game that feels kinda rigged.

I played that game on HOF or Legend btw, cant remember which, but such a better experience overall.

I'm not a very good player, but in RS I have this issue too. I can hit it ok in a couple games and then I end up in a game where I'm late on it everytime unless I guess fastball and swing as soon as the pitcher releases, but if it's not a fastball I can't hold back now. The pitch speeds are definitely inconsistent this year.

It's all related to latency.

Yup, i have this problem too, i am playing my RS games on AS and most games the pitch speed is faster than playing the CPU on legend. I know i have done it back to back. It makes RS virtually unplayable. I have now just started quitting the game until i have a game vs someone with a good connection. So now i am sitting in the 400s all the time.

I dont think it's about connection though. I've had plenty of games where there is a lot of lag and no issues with fastballs and games with no lag whatsoever and a 95mph ball comes in like it's 110mph. It really sucks it's so inconsistent because I can't get used to my timing, because it's different game to game. I've had games against terrible players, I struggle to beat because sometimes its impossible for me to hit a fastball and games where I'm outmatched, but can hit the fastball no problem. If the game was consistent... RS would be a lot more fun for me.

It would be great to get some feedback from the developers about the pitch speed fluctuations. Do they acknowledge it? Are we all just crazy? If they are aware of it, is it something they are working on? If it is connection related, I’ve heard a lot of people talk about how ping affects it. I’m afraid that SDS is aware of it, they know what causes it, and have no plans of attempting a fix for the future. I hope I’m wrong, though.

I am glad to know i am not the only person who see this. I am only playing RS to get stats for TA and trying to Prestige Eric Davis. I dont care about winning, but 40 minutes of 98 looking like 110 is painful.

Yesterday and this morning pitches seem really fast. This has me swinging super early on offspeed. I'm looking like a fool. I thought maybe my brain/eyes are just tired from work, but I don't know

When you start looking for an opponent, hit "left" on the D-Pad to keep the range of your query smaller? I have been doing this lately and I don't know if it helps connection wise, but it has been yielding me some better gameplay games.
-
I hope when they go cross platform it exposes SDS cheap and lazy selves to get better servers because they trash and better matchups based on connections.

The only way to test the connection lag before a game is to be the away team and scroll through the pitcher or batter lineup screen. When I find an away game where I have minimal lag at the lineup screen, those tend to be my best game play experiences.

Today was the worst ever been for me. Played three games and the last 2, I couldn't hit that fastball to save my life. I even decided not to swing at anything but high fastballs and I still couldn't hit the [censored] things. Bob Feller was the first pitcher and his fastball looked like it was going 300 miles per hour. Then his relievers were like Chapman and I think I might have gotten a foul tip. I tried swinging early and that didn't work.
Next game was Smoltz and I still couldn't hit those fastballs. He brought in Rollie fingers and some other guys and I still was not able to hit the fastball. Combine that with a changeup that the pictures threw and I was just overmatched completely.
Never have problems hitting fastballs on Legend offline. Some boneheaded Errors By my infielders too. Just one of those bad days from the crappy online.

Exactly right. I have been harping on connection issues since I started really playing DD again in 2017. The difference in pitch speeds is super noticeable to me. To me, if you don't see it you are either blind or very lucky with the connections.
I'm pretty sure SDS knows this is an issue. How can they not?
Kuhlkilla is correct in that away games with minimal menu lag are the best. Bad lag as away team and you are just asking for a horrible experience. Home games usually are a [censored] shoot, usually not good.
I played professional baseball and there are plenty of times I simply can't react. I could hit 95 irl but not in a video game. OK.
