My opinion is it’s disappointing that some people who are at 100 percent and most likely will get all of the stage 3 TAs through showdowns still feel the need to inflate the market. Some may use just for exchanges and now the cost is higher than a few days ago.
The more people trying to capitalize on TA 3, the less the market will rise. If more people are selling when TA 3 drops, the prices won't climb as high. However, if no one is selling when TA 3 drops, and everyone is buying, the prices would be much higher.
People stockpiling with the intention to sell will actually help players in your situation.
Sure hope so I have 4 teams at 120 TA points and one I don’t even like the player announced thus far. A very good player can be done with 3 showdowns in 3 hours and have any player they want.

It's obvious you've dug a line in the sand, you've made your up mind that it's a bunch of faceless people manipulating the market. If that is the mindset you want, by all means, but I think I've laid out a pretty good argument on what is really happening.
Again u r a Prestige 67 player while I am at Diamond 83. I am sure u r far superior to me as I have defeated open showdown ever. In my case I will prob need to use exchanges while u can have 40 TA points in 2 hours.
So because you aren't good at the game other people should have to take the longer route and just hand you cards for cheap so you can do it the easy way? Not how things work
No where did I say that but again I don’t see why a card like Robles has to double
Let me say it again the BUYERS cause the price to go up because people that want to do exchanges when the program drops go on and hit buy now which cause the price of the card to go up. Then the price slowly goes back down as leople put in sell orders. So therefore the price goes back down because of the SELLERS. Noone is gonna undercut the last sell order by a couple hundred on a silver just to be nice.

Prices are set by the seller not the buyer. The buyer will buy what’s available. Again if you are someone who will acquire TA through showdowns what do you gain by having 500k stubs? You will have 30 players right there 97-99.

I started a spreadsheet a couple weeks ago so I could balance my bronzes + for TA and split my stubs made in the game between stub’s and cards for TA3. My goal was to get at least 50,000 exchange points for every team. That would get me 6 cards, 1 for every division right off the bat. So 1/5 of my TA3 progress is exchange the other 4/5 is showdown. That’s still a lot of showdown’s

Sure and I envy u all cause I fail every time I do one. In my case it’s exchanges or daily grinds. Wish it was possible to keep playing the showdown until you pass I would spend a couple of hours on one if it meant 20-25 TA points. MTO is too long on veteran which I play on to be worth it.

I've been preaching this method all year long. Looking to cash in on some 300-400k tomorrow hopefully.
I wish i had listened to you earlier, i should do ok when the new TA's hit but had i followed your advice instead of fliping i would have been better off. Lesson learned.
Tip for 21, invest HEAVILY into early exclusive golds/silvers. I had 120 Manny Machado at one point, sold almost all of them for 800 stubs a piece when I paid 300 per. Had I of just held them, well, 120x6,000.
Same with Brian Robert's. I purchased 10 at 1k, sold 9 off at 3k and my final one at 13k. Invest very heavily into Veteran series players NOW. I'm assuming we will see them be the collection requirement for the next inning program since we've already seen Breakout, Rookie, and now Allstar collections with these programs.

Live series collection, prospect collection, buy WS or BR rewards you won't be able to win yourself. I feel like I explained it pretty well it just sounds like you dont understand how the market works in the game. If there is a sell order for 450 and one above it for 452 if i go in and hit buy now the 450 will sell to me and next available one is 452. If 100 people go in and hit buy now that shoots the price up. Now people will start selling there cards at the high price which will eventually lead to the card going back down in price from people undercutting each other. There is no conspiracy of people running the market here, its simple supply and demand.

Yeah that's my plan, I invested pretty heavily into all-star and made some good stubs, it makes sense that veteran will be next/soon

First ,just because a seller lists a price doesn't mean he is setting that price, what the buyer is willing to pay sets the price.
be able to or not able to complete showdown has nothing to do with it, people's desire to complete the TA as quickly as possible is why the market inflates so much, it's a case of want not need.
As to the question of why, have to make stubs selling what people are buying,it is currently this, there are a bunch of FB/legends out that people want , me personally about 300k worth and all the good stuff is just starting, I expect by January I'll have aquired 3times the cost of LS collect in FB legends, just because there are 30 high level cards in stage 3 doesn't mean you don't need others,I will use as many cards as I can and have fun with all sorts of players, this is the means to that end. -

I get it and amazed at the patience you have. I won’t spend any time trying to put in tons of orders .
I actually do it this way to avoid putting in tons of orders. If I flipped all year I would need to do hundreds and hundreds of repricing for 1 stub and it’s quite annoying. This way you make less but you can quite easily just sell most of them at once or extremely fast without multiple posts.
Having another game helps kill the time or at least avoid wasting stubs when your bored.

This thread really hurt my brain, in all honesty.
-
Ray Charles could beat these veteran difficulty showdowns. just because someone could beat showdown every single time they play it doesn't mean that they don't have the right to buy cards and still do exchanges. Just because some of us can beat showdown every time doesn't mean we want to grind 40 hours of showdown just to unlock some cards when we have been stockpiling cheap golds and silvers and can do some exchanges in between to save some time because there are other modes to play besides just showdown versus the CPU which is extremely boring but it does serve a purpose. I'm sorry for the run-on sentence but this thread almost seems like a troll job. It's like the same conversation going in circles with the OP not opening his mind at all. It almost seems like he thinks the cards should just be unlocked for him without him having to beat showdown or buy cards off the market. I literally don't understand that mindset. Participation trophy type stuff.

You do realize that what you say makes absolutely no sense at all and everyone is trying to explain that to you right? BUYERS are setting the market not sellers. People are buying large amounts of cards right now to finish the next TA.... when that happens they buy up the cheapest cards which leaves the next most expensive card for sale. After this is repeated thousands upon thousands of times, card prices NATURALLY go up. NOT because of what sellers are doing at all.

@eatyum said in Inflation of market:
And what would you suggest to fix that?
With TA3 dropping, there is obviously more demand for golds in order for exchanges, and Econ 101 says more demand = higher prices. It's not some people manipulating the market to make a profit.
I’m doing it to make a profit. Seeings that I really don’t care about TA I’m taking advantage of Market right now.

As i said many won’t agree with me but if I had to guess many people who are of superior ability in game are many who have inflated the market to earn more stubs when the lesser players who would need to do exchanges more can’t because the cost is high.
Flawed logic, I suck at the game and I've got a lot riding on this TA 3. I can do showdown after a few tries. I'll never be above 600 player though. I've been stuck in the 500's for awhile. I'm not mad about it, I enjoy the game. Its just simple supply and demand. A lot of us knew that prices would go up when the next stage drops. We bought low and plan to sell hi.

You were late to the party.
Being honest, I buy them all year. When POTM exchanges cause a rush, sell stacks of silver and bronze. Reinvest them right back.
Just plan ahead more next time.
And are u at 100 percent with all teams? If so is your purpose just to take stubs of the players not as good? I am just wondering. Not stating it’s true just wondering
Yes. My intent is to take stubs from the people that don't play the market properly.
Buying a gold 81 at 1025 is smart. I can exchange it out and the fool that sold it to me made less than if they quick sold it.
Free market is not where I do charity work. That's at school, church and other areas of my local community. Not in a virtual marketplace.
-
Wow this thread is something. No one is forcing you to buy these cards. No one is taking anyone’s stubs. There are multiple ways to earn ta points. You can load up your squad with one team and grind innings against the cpu, you can do m2o. Also we’ve known about the different stages of team affinity since the game dropped. You could have easily pick up these cards over the last few weeks when prices were lower, so that’s on you.
As other posters have stated buyers dictate the market. Sellers can set prices how they choose but it’s up to the buyers to determine if that price is what they’re willing to pay. An item is only as valuable as what someone is willing to pay for it. If you think the prices are too high then you don’t have to buy. This is not market manipulation in any way. This is pretty much Econ 101
