Pitch speeds and swing timing

Yes, unfortunately it's all latency related. And since we don't have a ping indicator in our line up screen, it's impossible to know how the game will play until you're actually playing. There's also no difference in being the home/away team which many people still seem to think is a significant difference. It's really not. Not much to do about it other than just ride it out.

I'm also pretty sure the game is dropping frames, causing the pitch to teleport. I think it's part of the reason sinkers look so fast. The break is so exaggerated that a dropped frame here and there causing the ball to teleport both vertically and horizontally.
'18 also had an issue with this, causing breaking balls to seem just as fast as fastballs.

I've had this more since the last patch, than previously. There are times when the ball coming in on a pitch kinda hiccups and warps.

Lag compensation.

I have been seeing where my PCI will flicker either right to left or left to right. Not sure if that is happening to anyone else but I wonder if that takes an effect to when I swing.
-
I don’t understand why latency is affecting this years game so much. There have always been connection issues and lag in the past, but this year issues affects swing timing so much that online has become unenjoyable.
-
To make matters worse, events play entirely different to RS. Almost as if they were kn two separate difficulties.
-
You can watch streamers and they will be on the ball one game and then they can’t touch it. This game has amazing content, but the play is horrible. It has started effecting every aspect of the game. I love showdown, good Xp and way to earn stubs. But the hitting has caused me to lose to mini bosses I destroyed before the patch
-
I agree with you beanball0571. Content is awesome but gameplay can be frustrating. I’m enjoying the showdowns and the current event. I play RS but it feels totally different than events, particularly hitting.
-
I just played a game where I couldn’t touch the ball. Granted, it was against Feller, but it was ridiculous. I was either late or very early with not much in between. And when I pitched, the game would freeze and then resume. When the game plays like this, are pitch speeds super fast for both people, or is it normal for one and warp speed for the other?

This year's game requires more skill so I can see why casuals and noobs are having a hard time cause they can't hit homeruns all the time so there's less of a pat on the back and we all know casuals love instant gratifications.
-
Besides the connection problems that have already been laid out in this thread....Sometimes it’s just harder to read the ball out of some pitcher’s hands than others & that causes you to be late even though they may throw slower than other pitchers that you hit well. Like I have always hit Feller’s 100 mph fastball no problem but struggle to catch up with Sale’s fastball even though it’s only 96.

I like your new icon. It looks like a Transformer that turns into fire hydrant. Help me think of what his name would be.
First attempt: Spigot -
I dont understand how guys on youtube can move their pci. Even when I try to move mine there is too much glitch or lag that it is completely counter productive.

Lol skill has nothing to do with pitch speeds changing game to game because of latency.
And while we’re at it, directional has become more viable for less skilled players because of the random hanging pitches.

All very helpful feedback... Thanks guys.
I can't believe it's so drastic the difference between the timing game to game. I also have been noticing some games it's impossible to check a swing and others it's easy. I wish the game could just be something in the middle every time. Would it be safe to say these games where the fastball is so fast it's impossible to hit my opponent is having the same difficulties? -

What's your record in ranked season?
-
Here are the issues lag/connection problems cause. I know because I see them all the time.
Baserunning
Runners don't react quickly to input. Round the base to far, don't go to the correct base, delayed running, etc.
When stealing the base runners get very poor jumps. i.e. 95 doesn't steal until well after the pitcher starts
Runners tagging up delay their start. Have had 95 speed almost thrown out at home from the warning track which is ridiculous and causes you not to send people you should.Fielding
A lot of problems. Missing ground balls, pop-ups and running fly balls.
Delay in throwingPitching
Due to the lag your input especially analog goes wonky causing balls or middle pitches since you physically can't hit the markHitting
Less hits on good/good better contact
PCI jumps causing you to overshoot.
Pitches seem to teleport
Pitches seem way faster than normal
Pitch recognition is non-existent.
Check swinging is impossible during these games but opponent can do it all the time.I'm sure there are other things but can't think of them right now.
Games when you're on the good side of this, none of these issues appear. When on the bad, they appear frequently and make this game a flat miserable experience. SDS needs to find this issue. They seem content to cater to the people that enjoy this advantage all the time instead of making it a level playing field for EVERYONE. They could do this but for some reason won't. I played a few HOF games in RS yesterday and all of them were just a miserable experience. Probably going to tank back down to 400 again and start playing then. These issues appear some down in the lower ranks but seem to get more frequent the higher you go.I always have around the same record and average because I adjust according to how the game is playing. When it is playing like garbage (like most times), I will take more pitches and sit on more locations instead of tracking the ball out of the hand. That is my preferred method of hitting but it is impossible when pitches seem like they are 120 mph.

I think you need to calm down and go have a hot pocket or buy a stub or two or whatever casuals do to relax.
